AUSTIN, Texas – Senior designated hitter of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball program
Kit Wigington has been named to the College Sports Communicators Second Team Academic All-America team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Kit Wigington earns his second career Academic All-America honor after he was named to the first team after his freshman season in 2022 when he burst onto the scene as one of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's premier players.
"Kit has had a tremendous career with us here at UCCS," Head UCCS Baseball Coach
Dave Hajek proudly shared. "What makes it even more impressive was his ability to stay focused and keep his priorities in order while getting a degree in one of the more difficult programs we have on campus. Congrats to Kit on being an All-American on the field and off!"
Wigington, a Mechanical Engineering major, endured perhaps the most rigorous academic pathways at UCCS while maintaining his athletic output on the field as one of the league's most productive hitters. This spring, the Colorado Springs native appeared in 46 of the Mountain Lions' 48 contests, hitting .379 on his campaign. Wigington totaled 38 runs scored while leading the team with 42 RBIs and an impressive 1.062 OPS. In the team's final regular season series, Wigington set a program record with his 402
nd career total base, while tying the program record for walks at 68.
Wigington helped the Mountain Lions return to the RMAC postseason baseball tournament this season for the first time since 2022, finishing with a record of 23-26.
