HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS first inning woes continued Friday as Adams State plated a pair of two out runs to open the second day of the RMAC tournament. After starter Jason Fink got two quick outs forcing a flyout before fanning Josh Parks, but Seth Reker and Josaih Hall then went single, double to put UCCS in an early pressure situation. Jason Fink was able to get a ground ball from Phil Carter, but Trevor Dale bobbled it on the transfer allowing the first ASU run to score. Christian Altamirano then continued the inning with an RBI single before Fink fanned Caleb Eiguren to end the inning, but ASU grabbed the early 2-0 lead.
- UCCS got on the board in the second, with Caleb Chance and Dillion Vroman slashing back-to-back singles to start the inning. A beautifully executed sacrifice bunt from Nolan Ackerman moved the pair into scoring position setting up Trevor Dale to tie the game with a sacrifice fly.
- The next baserunner for either team was Dillon Vroman who walked with one out in the fourth, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Nolan Ackerman lifted a fly out to center moving Vroman to third, with the UCCS right fielder coming home on another wild pitch to tie the game.
- The next batch of offense came in the eighth, this time for the Grizzlies. Josiah Hall led the frame with a solo shot to left, before Phil Carter was plunked and Christian Altamirano doubled. With runners on second and third and no one out, UCCS made their first pitching change as Joe Plise was brought on. Alex Hernandez pinch hit for Eiguren in response to the pitching change, and came through with a 2 RBI double to give Adams the 5-2 lead. Gunner Martinez followed that with an RBI single to send Adams back on defense with a comfortable 6-2 lead.
- UCCS wouldn't go down quietly as hits came from Kasey Campbell, Kit Wigington, and Hayden Iverson in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead to a pair at 6-4, but that would be all for the late push, as Adams State eliminates the Mountain Lions and advances to the
