SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team fought back from a five-point second-half deficit to overcome Westminster University with the help of a game-winning, last-minute goal from
Sarah Urbanic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: WU 3,
UCCS 2
- Sunday afternoon's game started slow between the Mountain Lions and Griffins, but an early Rylie Maready (11:42) and Erica Rivera goal (7:43) ushered UCCS to a 2-1 lead. The Mountain Lions were held at bay for the remainder of the quarter, but the Griffins would score two goals and lead 3-2.
SECOND QUARTER: WU 6, UCCS 3
- Westminster opened the second frame with a 4-1 run to lead 7-3 with 8:24 before the half. Maready and Allie Schell replied immediately with goals, but Westminster closed the first half strong and would lead 9-5 going into the break.
THIRD QUARTER: UCCS 6, WU 4
- Rivera started the scoring for UCCS in the second half, but the Griffins scored two more to stay up five (11-6). Rivera assisted Sofia Watts with a goal at 11:11, and a few minutes later, Sarah Urbanic scored a goal on a free position shot to pull UCCS within three (11-8). Emma Grace Martin and Peyton Ross each scored as well to bring the Mountain Lions within one (11-10), but the Griffins replied with a goal at 4:22. Jade Wilson scored a goal a minute later, but the Griffins scored again to take a 13-11 lead into the final frame.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 5, WU 2
- Urbanic took over in the fourth quarter right away, scoring two consecutive goals in the first minute to even things at 13 apiece. The Mountain Lions reclaimed the lead with Watts scoring at the 6:19 mark, but Westminster replied with their own goal to tie. Watts scored again a few minutes later, but the Griffins tied it again. With 53 seconds on the clock and things knotted at 15, Urbanic created separation and found the back of the net to give UCCS a 16-15 lead. The Mountain Lions held on from there and completed the comeback effort.
FINAL SCORE: UCCS 16, WU 15
GAME STATISTICS
- Urbanic had a sensational showing, recording four goals, one assist, five points, and six shots on goal. She also went two-for-two on free-position shots.
- Watts came up big in the fourth in the comeback effort, recording three goals overall in five shots on goal. Rivera and Maready also collected two goals each.
- Martin led the team in assists, collecting three, and had the second-most points with four. She also collected a team-high five ground balls.
- Other Mountain Lions recording a goal include Ross, Martin, Wilson, Schell, and Sydnee-Anne Moeller.
- Jordyn Nuñez played all 60 minutes in goal and recorded 10 total saves.
- UCCS outshot Westminster 38-29, had more shots on goal (29-25), had more draw controls (23-12), and made more free-position shots (3-2).
- The Griffins bested the Mountain Lions in clears (26-18), ground balls (37-28), and saves (13-10).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With her five points today, Urbanic has set a new single-season high for most points in a season in program history with 71, passing Julia Patrick, who had 67 points in 2023.
- With her four goals, Urbanic has also set a new single-season record for most goals in a season with 53, passing Patrick, who recorded 52 goals in 2023.
- Nunez recorded her eighth win of the season and her career, which gives her sole possession of the second-most wins in a season by a goalkeeper and tied for the second-most wins all-time in program history.
- Today marks the Mountain Lion's ninth win, which ties the most wins in a season in program history.
