HOW IT HAPPENED
- Adams State broke the ice once again in their first trip to the plate, despite UCCS' ability to get the first two batters out. Seth Reker took his at bat with no one on and two men out, and swatted a single through the right side, which brought up Josiah Hall who walked. With runners on first and second, Joshua Parks got the job done with an RBI single to right to score Reker, as Adams secured the first lead of the contest. The Mountain Lions would induce a groundball from Christian Altamirano to end the inning in the next at bat, making their way to offense with the 1-0 deficit.
- UCCS earned a leadoff base hit in the first from Mikey Brinton, but Caleb Chance grounded into a double play to erase both of the first two hitters on the base paths, as Kit Wigington was robbed of a base hit at second on a hard line out to end the inning.
- In the second inning, defensive struggles haunted the Mountain Lions once again. A lead off baserunner would reach for Adams on a UCCS error, allowing Caleb Eiguren to first base to begin the frame. Gunnar Martinez's double put both players in scoring position, before Eiguren scored on Ayden Tauscher's groundout two batters later. The Mountain Lions would navigate the rest of the inning without incident but trailed 2-0 after an inning and a half.
- UCCS would find paydirt in the third inning as Mikey Brinton stepped to the dish with two outs and launched his eighth home run of the season in no-doubt fashion to right field. The blast would be the lone run for UCCS as the Mountain Lions cut the lead in half at 2-1 ASU.
- In the fourth inning the defensive woes for UCCS reared their ugly head once more, with Gunnar Martinez walking to lead off, then moving up to third on a wild pick off throw that crept up the line. Phil Carter then drove Martinez in with a base hit to right, restoring the two-run lead for the Grizzlies heading to the bottom of the fourth.
- UCCS earned a leadoff single in the home half of the fourth, with Hayden Iverson lifting a base hit over the infield, with Dillon Vroman reaching on an error to put to first two hitters on for the Mountain Lions. Caleb Stubbings would flyout to left, but Bryce Peterson and Trevor Dale followed with back-to-back walks to force home Iverson with UCCS' second run. UCCS could not produce another baserunner despite the bases loaded, one out situation to head to the fifth down 3-2.
- Adams State would face Jason Fink for the second time in the series as he replaced James Harbison on the mound for UCCS to begin the fifth, as Adams wasted no time getting their run back from the previous inning. The first pitch from Fink was sent off the scoreboard in left center by Seth Reker, as Adams led 4-2 with the homer being the lone run of the top half of the fifth.
- UCCS would even the score in the bottom half of the fifth, with a push of two out offense. Hayden Iverson started the effort earning a walk on five pitches, setting up Dillon Vroman to launch a two-run moonshot over the batter's eye in center field, pulling the Mountain Lions even with the Grizzlies at 4-4.
- In the sixth, the Grizzlies worked a leadoff walk as Gunnar Martinez made his way to first, then came around to score on Seth Reker's RBI single three batter's later. The play restored Adams' lead to one run with UCCS returning to the batter's box down 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth.
- The rock 'em, sock 'em match continued as UCCS manufactured a run of their own in the sixth, with Trevor Dale earning first base on balls with one out, giving way to Tyler Buchman who smashed a double to the gap in left that rolled to the wall and allowed Dale to come all the way around from first base. Buckman would move up to third on Mikey Brinton's groundout to the right side, but was stranded at third, as UCCS tied the game at 5 runs a side.
- The Grizzlies pulled away in the top of the seventh inning as Phil Carter sent a grand slam over the fence in right field, with Macs Carrillo and Seth Reker, also coming home in the inning to give Adams State a decisive 11-5 lead after adding six runs in the frame.
- Both teams would add a run in the eighth inning, but the ninth would come and go without any additional scoring as Adams State makes their return to Alamosa with the series win from Colorado Springs.
