HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: UCCS 4, FLC 1
  • Four different Mountain Lions scored a goal in the opening quarter of action from Durango, Colo.  A goal from the Skyhawks at 10:41 gave the home team a 1-0 lead that shriveled up quickly as Emma Grace Martin notched the equalizer at 9:04 on a free-position goal.  Sydnee-Anna Moeller received the ball and ran two-thirds the length of the field before firing in a shot from six meters in front of the goal for UCCS's first lead of the game, 2-1.  On the ensuing draw, Kiley Cuddahy connected with Brennan Kelley from inside the circle before Sarah Urbanic capitalized on an FLC turnover and zig-zagged through the defense to put UCCS on top, 4-1, after one-quarter of action.
SECOND QUARTER: UCCS 7, FLC 0
  • The Mountain Lions continued their 11-0 run through the end of the first half.  Sofia Watts started the second stanza with back-to-back goals less than two minutes into the quarter.  Meghan Weiss recorded a career highlight when she intercepted a pass behind the Mountain Lions' goal and took it coast-to-coast for her first career goal.  Cuddahy added another assist when she found a slashing Martin to give UCCS an 8-1 cushion.  Watts closed the half with a hat trick, putting the Mountain Lions on top, 11-1, with 1:14 remaining in the half.  The Mountain Lions' defense did not allow the Skyhawks to record a shot on goal in the second period.
THIRD QUARTER: UCCS 2, FLC 0
  • Ellen Gernert entered the game protecting UCCS' cage to start the second half and made three saves. With a running clock in play, Peyton Ross notched a goal 44 seconds into the second half from a free-position attempt.  The Mountain Lions' second goal of the quarter came when Erica Rivera scooped up a ground ball from a Skyhawks turnover.  With the ball eventually ending up in Urbanic's net, she cut through the core of FLC's defense for her third goal of the game.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 5, FLC 2
  • Urbanic continued her scoring spree when she found the back of the net to score her fourth goal of the game, and the Mountain Lions' first goal of the final stanza.  Urbanic worked her way into the scoring zone moving right to left before zinging in a left-handed shot, giving UCCS a 14-1 lead.  The Mountain Lions' second goal of their five-goal quarter came from Ellia Maready who received a pass from Jade Wilson at 11:16. The Skyhawks ended nearly a 50-minute scoring drought when Victoria Barletta netted the second goal of the contest for the blue and yellow, but the Mountain Lions added three more goals to seal the win, 18-3.
