HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: UCCS 6, CSUP 3
- Watts gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish when she moved left to right in the attacking zone less than three minutes into the contest. Sydnee-Anne Moeller connected with Lauren Schindlebeck five minutes in front of the net for her first goal of the season. Ava Goodnature then pushed UCCS' lead to 3-1 when she caused a ThunderWolves turnover, picked up the ground ball, and went the distance before dumping it off to Urbanic in front of CSUP's cage. After a Pack free-position goal and a 3-2 lead, Watts won the ensuing draw control that led to Urbanic's assist on a Casey Good shot attempt. Back to a one-goal lead, 4-3, Wilson won one of her 12 draws that eventually led to Emma Grace Martin running the left baseline and shooting the ball between the posts for a 5-3 lead. Nineteen seconds later at 2:19, Martin struck again to put UCCS on top, 6-3, after one-quarter of action.
SECOND QUARTER: UCCS 8, CSUP 1
- UCCS grew their lead to 12-3 as they continued a 7-0 run from the first stanza. Moeller caused a Pack turnover and went the length of the field before Peyton Ross took advantage of a CSUP yellow card and fired in a free-position shot for the eighth goal of the game. The Mountain Lions were patient on offense, working the ball around the perimeter as Watts scored back-to-back goals before Urbanic chipped in two straight goals for a 12-3 lead, capping off the 7-0 run. Urbanic struck again for her third straight score on Moeller's assist, before Watts ended the half with her fourth goal of the game, giving UCCS a running clock with a 14-4 lead at the break.
THIRD QUARTER: UCCS 4, CSUP 1
- With a 10-goal lead to start the second half, Urbanic connected with Watts 38 seconds into the half before Erica Rivera assisted on a player-up goal for Watts. Rivera joined the scoring action with a free-position goal while Watts closed the third period with her third goal of the quarter, netting a free-position, player-down goal, putting the game out of reach, 18-5.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 3, CSUP 3
- The Pack attempted a comeback, registering three of the first four goals in the final stanza, but the Mountain Lions' defense held steady as Moeller, Rivera and Brennan Kelley tagged on three more goals for UCCS to end the game, 21-8, in favor of the black and gold.
FINAL SCORE: UCCS 21, CSUP 8
