Track & Field Earns 22 USTFCCCA All-South Central Region Accolades

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their All-Region honors for the 2024-25 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season on Wednesday, with 20 student-athletes from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track and field teams combining to collect a total of 22 All-South Central Region accolades.
 
The top five individuals in each event from each region among the organization's member institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top three relay teams.
 
The UCCS men's track & field team had 12 student-athletes earn a total of 13 all-Region honors across eight different events for the 2024-25 indoor season. On the track, senior Kymani Sterling picked up regional accolades in both the 60m and 200m for the second consecutive season, while sophomore Ashton Whisler received all-region honors in the 400m for the first time in his collegiate career. In the field, the Mountain Lions had a slew of student-athletes collect their first all-region accolades as a member of the program, including sophomore, Nigel James (60m Hurdles), junior KJ McInnis (High Jump), freshman Alex Emers (High Jump), redshirt senior Caiden Macktinger (Pole Vault), sophomore Jeffrey Franquemont (Long Jump), junior Michael Roberts (Weight Throw), and sophomore Evan Atkin (Heptathlon). Redshirt senior Richard Safoh (Long Jump) and senior Luke Hard (Weight Throw) each secured regional awards in their respective events for the second consecutive year, while redshirt senior Thorben Hast earned all-region honors in the heptathlon for the second time in his collegiate career and first time since the 2021-22 indoor season.

200m: Kymani Sterling – 4th in South Central (21.32c)
400m: Ashton Whisler – 4th in South Central (47.34c)
60mh: Nigel James – T6th in South Central (8.01c)
High Jump: KJ McInnis – T2nd in South Central (2.05m)
High Jump: Alex Emers – T2nd in South Central (2.05m)
Pole Vault: Caiden Macktinger – 3rd in South Central (5.32m)
Long Jump: Jeffrey Franquemont – 2nd in South Central (7.64m)
Long Jump: Richard Safoh – 3rd in South Central (7.58m)
Weight Throw: Luke Hard – 2nd in South Central (20.01m)
Weight Throw: Michael Roberts – 5th in South Central (18.74m)
Heptathlon: Thorben Hast – 2nd in South Central (5,287c)
Heptathlon: Evan Atkin – 5th in South Central (5,114c)
 
From the women's team, eight student-athletes combined to record a total of nine all-region accolades across nine different events. Redshirt senior Kate Hedlund continued her string of success in the women's mile as she collected all-region honors in the event for the third consecutive season, while the remainder of the women's all-region recipients were first-time honorees in their respective events.

Mile: Kate Hedlund – 4th in South Central (4:40.53)
3,000m: Anna Fauske – 3rd in South Central (9:18.96c)
5,000m: Anna Fauske – 4th in South Central (16:15.34)
60m hurdles: Krissie Sanders – 5th in South Central (8.70c)
Pole Vault: Brooke Peterson – T3rd in South Central (3.80m)
Long Jump: Paige Cordero – T3rd in South Central (5.79m)
Triple Jump: Payton Rodgers – 4th in South Central (12.06m)
Weight Throw: Savannah Jorgens – 4th in South Central (17.52m)
 
The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants for the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on Tuesday, March 4, and the Mountain Lions are set to send 14 student-athletes to compete across nine individual entries and two relay entries at the three-day national championship meet that will take place at the Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, Ind., as part of the NCAA Division II Winter Championships Festival on March 13-15.
