Men’s Track & Field Reclaims RMAC Indoor Title; Women Finish Second

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's track & field team reclaimed their spot at the top of the conference as they scored 191 points to win the 2025 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, marking their fifth indoor title in the past six seasons. On the women's side, the Mountain Lions earned a second-place finish for the third consecutive indoor season, scoring 131.5 points and coming up less than 10 points shy of Colorado School of Mines (140.5 points).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The UCCS men's sprinters loaded up the points in the 60m dash as they claimed three of the top four spots in the competition to tally a total of 19 points. Senior Kymani Sterling was the first Mountain Lion across the finish line in a provisional qualifying converted time of 6.79s that was good for second place overall. Redshirt senior Richard Safoh also made his way to the podium with a third-place finish in a provisional qualifying converted time of 6.82s, while junior Daryn Ofori-Kuragu was the fourth-place finisher in the race at a provisional qualifying converted time of 6.83s.
  • The Mountain Lions added 18 points in the men's mile, led by redshirt junior Jagger Zlotoff, who put together an excellent race to narrowly edge out his competition for the gold medal in a provisional qualifying converted time of 4:02.95. Sophomore Brett Davis took fifth place in the event with a converted time of 4:09.35 and he was followed across the finish line by redshirt sophomore Joseph Impellitteri in sixth place at a converted time of 4:12.27 and redshirt sophomore Enzo Knapp in eighth place at a converted time of 4:12.34.
  • The combined athlete trio of Evan Atkin, Thorben Hast, and Dillon Arvayo finished off the final three events of the men's heptathlon beginning on Saturday morning and did not disappoint as they tallied a total of 17 points with Atkin and Hast both making it to the podium. Atkin put together a personal best performance to take the silver medal, posting a converted score of 5,114 points that surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying threshold for the first time in his collegiate career. Hast brought home the bronze medal with a provisional qualifying converted score of 4,977 points, while Arvayo established a season-best converted mark of 4,659 points to finish in sixth place.
  • Just one day removed from earning a gold medal and fieldhouse record in the women's 5,000m, senior Anna Fauske returned to the track on Saturday in the women's 3,000m race and made even more history as she broke her own Mountain Lion Fieldhouse facility record to secure the gold medal in the event with a season-best NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:18.96. Fauske's first place finish was good for 10 team points, and her season-best converted time moved her back inside the top five in NCAA Division II for the event.
  • 17 points were scored in the men's 200m dash as a pair of UCCS student-athletes landed on the podium in the event. Ofori-Kuragu was the top finisher for the Mountain Lions and the second overall finisher with a converted time of 21.70s, while junior Sebastien Jean earned a bronze medal with a converted time of 21.72s. Sterling also returned to the track in the 200m and went on to finish seventh overall with a converted time of 22.09s.
  • Junior KJ McInnis cruised to the individual event title in the men's high jump, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 2.04m to score 10 team points. Freshman Alex Emers added another five points in the event as he finished fourth overall with a bar clearance of 1.99m.
  • While he was winning the high jump title, McInnis was also competing in the men's triple jump at the same time, and he was unfazed by the busy schedule as he earned a silver medal and scored eight points in the event with a season and personal best NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 14.90m. Freshman Realiti Smith also contributed points in the triple jump as he recorded a mark of 14.18m to finish fifth overall and score four points.
  • UCCS saw a pair of season-best performances in the men's 400m lead to 14 more points for the men's team as sophomore Ashton Whisler clocked an improved NCAA provisional qualifying time of 47.34c to finish second overall in the race. Jean was not far behind Whisler as he also improved his existing NCAA provisional qualifying time in the event to 47.64c for a third-place finish.
  • In the women's mile, redshirt senior Kate Hedlund raced to a silver medal finish with a NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 4:46.99 to score eight points for the women's team. Redshirt senior Rachel Richtman added four additional points in the event as she finished fifth overall while posting her first NCAA provisional qualifying mark of the indoor season at a converted time of 4:53.98. Just about an hour later, Hedlund made a return to the track in the women's 800m and posted a gritty fifth place finish with a NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 2:12.26 to push four more points to the women's tally.
  • Sophomore Nigel James scored eight points in the men's 60m hurdles final race as he dashed to a second-place finish in the competition with a NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 8.04s.
  • Senior Victoria Farinas posted another incredible day in the short sprint events as she secured bronze medals in both the women's 60m and 200m. In the 60m, the fourth-year sprinter raced to a personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying converted time of 7.51s to finish third and score six points. Farinas added six more points in the 200m, where she established a new personal best in the event for the second straight day with a provisional qualifying converted time of 24.62s.
  • Junior Kyle Demos made an appearance on the podium in the men's shot put as he collected a bronze medal in the event with an NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 16.60m. Junior Kane Fobare also tossed a personal best mark of 15.33m in the event to finish fifth overall and add four points for the team total.
  • In the women's high jump, sophomore Dallis Robinson made her way to the podium as she posted a mark of 1.59m that was good for a share of the bronze medal and counted as 5.5 points for the women's team.
  • Freshman Payton Rodgers notched an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 11.72m in the women's triple jump as she finished in fourth place and tallied five team points. Fellow freshman jumper Sophia Bowser also landed a personal best jump in the event, finishing sixth overall with a mark of 11.38m that was good for three more points.
  • Sophomore Krissie Sanders bagged a pair of fifth place finishes on the day to score eight points for the women's team. The standout sophomore opened her day in the women's 60m hurdles final and went on to clock a converted time of 8.90s before coming back to the outer track in the women's 400m dash and posting a personal best converted time of 57.23s.
  • Junior Savannah Jorgens had a personal best toss in the women's shot put as she reached a distance of 12.73m to finish seventh overall and score two points.
  • In the women's 4x400m relay, Sanders, Gigi Douillard, Farinas, and Danaya Kinnard raced to a season-best converted time of 3:52.45 to finish fourth overall and score five points.
  • With the championship already in the bag, the UCCS men's 4x400m relay team finished out the meet on the track with a strong provisional qualifying converted time of 3:15.41 as James, Peyton Nelson, Sean Donelson, and Whisler passed the baton to each other for a T-2nd place finish and seven team points.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • UCCS saw updates to the top five lists in the indoor record book for six different events on the second and final day of the 2025 RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships:
  • Following the conclusion of the indoor conference championship meet, the Mountain Lions have recorded a total of 45 NCAA provisional qualifying marks throughout the indoor season, including 28 on the men's side and 17 on the women's side.
  • The Mountain Lions recorded a total of 28 podium finishes across the two-day conference championship meet, including nine gold medals, nine silver medals, and 10 bronze medals.
  • McInnis was tabbed as the Dr. Randy Rhine Men's Athlete of the Meet after scoring the most points of any student-athlete competing at the indoor championship with 23. McInnis was the individual champion in the men's high jump while finishing second in the triple jump and fourth in the men's long jump.

  • The participant field for the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships will be announced at approximately 4 p.m. (MT) on Tuesday, March 4. The three-day national championship meet is set to take place on March 13-15 at the Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, Ind., as part of the 2025 NCAA Division II Winter Championships Festival.
