HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: RU 6, UCCS 2
- The home team won the opening draw and quickly put a goal on the scoreboard 33 seconds into the action. A UCCS turnover led to the Hawks scoring their second goal of the game, but Emma Grace Martin picked up where she left off on Tuesday, scoring her sixth goal of the season on a player-up, free-position goal to put UCCS on the board, 2-1, at 9:21. Sarah Urbanic added a free-position goal two minutes brining UCCS within one goal of Rockhurst, 3-2, but the Hawks rattled off three goals to end the first quarter with a 6-2 lead.
SECOND QUARTER: RU 5, UCCS 4
- A minor penalty was assessed to the Mountain Lions after the first quarter, leading Rockhurst to score their fourth unanswered goal less than a minute into the second stanza. Urbanic stopped the four-goal run when she took a pass from Allie Schell and drove from the right side to net a player-up goal at 12:26. Trailing by as many as five, 8-3, the Mountain Lions responded with back-to-back goals. After Rockhurst's eighth score of the game, Sofia Watts won the draw control and found Schell who fed the ball to Martin for her second goal of the game. Defense turned to offense for UCCS when Schell forced a turnover and picked up the ground ball. In transition, Watts found Schell, who finished the possession with a rocket in front of the cage, bringing UCCS within three, 8-5, with 9:31 left in the half. Sydnee-Anne Moeller netted UCCS' third free-position goal of the game before Rockhurst tacked on two more goals to end the half with an 11-6 lead over UCCS.
THIRD QUARTER: RU 2, UCCS 1
- Both teams were in an offensive stalemate to open the second half before Urbanic broke a 10-minute scoring drought when she took advantage of a Rockhurst yellow card and put one in the back of the net on a free-position shot. The home team was able to add two goals in the last three minutes and 15 seconds, putting their lead back to six, 13-7.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 3, RU 3
- Down by six goals to start the final stanza, Urbanic went to work quickly, finding the back of the net just 27 seconds into the quarter. Urnanic then found Erica Rivera at 7:48 for a player up goal to cut into Rockhurst's lead, 14-9, but the Hawks put the game away with two more goals to win their third straight game of the season, 16-10.
