UCCS Rode A Wave of Offense In Route to 13-8 Win Over Mines on Sunday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team tallied 13 runs Sunday to take down Colorado School of Mines 13-8.

INSIDE THE MATCH UP

· Final Score: UCCS 13, CSM 8

· Records: UCCS (7-3, 0-0 RMAC) | CSM (4-8, 0-0 RMAC)

· All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions trail the all-time series 12-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED

· Back-to-back doubles by Mines hitters Jackson Babcock and Tyler Pina gave the Orediggers an early 1-0 advantage in the top of the first.

· A bases loaded walk for Hayden Iverson scored James Harbison tying the game up after the first inning.

· A one-run single by Wayne Moeck and a two-run home run by Babcock gave Mines a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the second.

· In the bottom of the second the Mountain Lions answered with three runs of their own, thanks to RBI singles from Bryce Peterson and Kit Wigington, and another bases loaded walk by Tyler Buchman to tie the game 4-4.

· UCCS captured their first lead of the day in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run from Bryce Peterson pulling UCCS ahead 6-4.

· Colton Trudeau extended the Mountain Lion advantage to 7-4 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth.

· Mines reliever, Sam Monk, escaped trouble to end the fourth with a bases loaded strikeout, holding UCCS to a three-run lead.

· UCCS continued their scoring in the fifth inning with a solo home run off the bat of Wigington to make the score 8-4.

· The Mountain Lions piled on in the sixth inning after a Harbison RBI single extended the lead to 9-4 and chased Mines pitcher Grant Reising from the game.

· A double steal by UCCS resulted Dillon Vroman swiping home and pushed the lead to six at 10-4.

· After taking a short break from scoring in the seventh, the Mountain Lions tacked on three more runs, off two Oredigger errors to push their advantage to nine at 13-4.

· Mines was able to clean up the score before the final out, thanks to several base knocks from pinch hitters, a bases loaded walk by Jackson Babcock. Which was followed by a bases clearing double off the bat of Ben Leiphart to cut the lead to 13-8. Left hander

Benjamin Ruckman was brought on for UCCS and shut the door to secure the five-run lead for UCCS.

GAME STATISTICS

· Every Mountain Lion hitter reached base multiple times today, and seven of nine recorded a hit.

· UCCS collected eight stolen bases today, led by Hayden Iverson's three.

· Bryce Peterson and James Harbison led the way for UCCS hitters, each tallying three hits. Peterson homered on his way to collecting three RBIs, and Harbison came around to score three runs.

· Ryder Mancuso (2-0) pitched effectively to pick up his second win of the year, giving up just four hits, and four runs in 4.2 innings of work. Mancuso surrendered zero runs in his first four innings. Alex Honeyman (1-2) suffered his second loss of the season, giving up six runs and eight hits in just 3.0 innings.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

· Mancuso picks up his second win in as many appearances this season.

· After losing four straight games to Mines, UCCS has now won two of their last three against the Orediggers.

The Mountain Lions will finish up the weekend playing Mines again Monday, February 24 at noon at home.
