Mountain Lions Under Consideration in NCAA’s First Regional Ranking

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team is one of 10 teams under consideration in the first edition of the NCAA South Central Region Women's Basketball poll, announced Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA.  In the first rankings of the season, the NCAA lists 10 teams from each of the eight regions in alphabetical order.  The teams are under consideration to qualify for the NCAA Division II post-season tournament, beginning March 14.
 
With two weekends left in the regular season, the Mountain Lions own a 14-9 overall record and are in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, sharing the fourth spot with Adams State University and Colorado State University Pueblo.
 
The 64-team NCAA postseason tournament is comprised of eight teams from each of the eight Division II regions.  The South Central Region is made up of 15 teams from the RMAC and 16 teams from the Lone Star Conference. 
 
Two more regular season rankings will be released on Feb. 26 and March 5 and will have teams ranked in order, 1-10.  The 64-team bracket will be announced on the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, March 9 at 8:30 p.m. (MT) on www.ncaa.com
 
The Mountain Lions will play their final road games of the regular season this week when they travel to Adams State tomorrow, Feb. 20 for a 5:30 p.m. game, before playing at New Mexico Highlands University on Saturday at 1 p.m.  UCCS wraps up the regular season at home Feb. 27 and March 1.
