COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field teams opened the first day of the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Invite & Multi on Friday with a solid showing on their home track as the men's and women's squads combined for 10 NCAA provisional qualifying marks and seven event wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Michael Roberts opened the day on a high note for the Mountain Lions in the men's weight throw as he posted a personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying toss of 19.39m for a first place finish out of 12 throwers in the competition. Junior Hayden Cuevas finished directly behind Roberts in second place with a provisional qualifying mark of 18.40m, while junior James Bronzwaig took third place with a toss of 15.77m.
- In the women's weight throw, senior Savannah Jorgens followed Roberts' example and secured a first-place finish among nine competitors in the event with a personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 18.85m on her sixth and final throw of the day. Redshirt juniors Grace Solarin and Bailey Young also notched personal bests in the event with Solarin claiming third place with a toss of 17.13m and Young securing fifth place with a mark of 15.41m.
- Freshman Jayden Nohr notched a first-place finish in the men's long jump as he posted an NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 7.26m to pace the 13-person field. Sophomore Luguse Nuss and redshirt sophomore Josiah Billington also logged top five finishes and registered season-best marks with Nuss taking third place with a leap of 7.03m and Billington grabbing fourth place with a jump of 7.01m.
- The Mountain Lions secured seven of the top eight positions in a 19-person women's long jump field with redshirt senior Madissyn Moore finishing first overall at a season-best NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 5.79m followed by redshirt senior Chelsea Howard in second place with a leap of 5.62m and freshman Jillian Hennessy in third place with a mark of 5.58m. Junior Paige Cordero was the fifth-place finisher with a mark of 5.48m, while junior Zane Bullock took sixth place at 5.45m, freshman Tristyn Buss took seventh place at 5.44m, and junior Danaya Kinnard snagged eighth place at 5.43m.
- Senior Brooke Peterson was the top finisher in the women's pole vault as she cleared a season-best NCAA provisional qualifying bar height of 3.73m. Freshman Colette Bibeault finished second overall in the competition with a mark of 3.58m, while freshmen Reese Dorr and Sienna Boughen tied for third place with identical marks of 3.28m.
- Juniors Maylee Thompson and Lilyana Delagarza both posted personal best marks in the pentathlon as Thompson finished seventh overall with 3,271 points and Delagarza took eighth overall with 3,257 points. In addition to establishing new PRs in the 60m hurdles (9.56s) and 800m (2:32.61), Thompson posted a personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying leap of 5.91m in the long jump. Delagarza also put together a milestone day, posting personal best marks in the 60m hurdles (9.83s), shot put (9.14m), long jump (5.23m), and 800m (2:29.05) in addition to a season-best mark of 1.58m in the high jump.
- Junior Evan Atkin and senior Broden Cahoon led a group of five men's student-athletes competing on the first day of the heptathlon as Atkin finished the day in fourth place with 2,914 points and Cahoon ended the day in fifth place with 2,870 points. Atkin posted a solid day across the board with personal best marks of 7.21s in the 60m and 12.03m in the shot put to go along with leaps of 6.83m in the long jump and 1.91m in the high jump. Cahoon was the top finisher in both the 60m dash with a time of 6.98s and the long jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 7.22m while also posting solid marks of 10.61m in the shot put and 1.76m in the high jump. Sitting behind Atkin and Cahoon in the day one standings are senior Dillon Arvayo with an eighth-place score of 2,726 points, freshman Luke Masterson with a ninth-place score of 2,715 points, and junior Spencer Shuler with a 14th-place score of 2,425 points.
- UCCS had five student-athletes advance through the preliminary round of the women's 60m hurdles with junior Krissie Sanders leading the group with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.65c that placed her second overall in the field. Senior Abigail Frey posted the third-fastest prelim time with a mark of 8.90c, while freshman Colette Bibeault (9.09c), sophomore Payton Rodgers (9.09c), and redshirt senior Gigi Douillard (9.27c) also finished inside the top eight to qualify for tomorrow's event final. On the men's side of the 60m hurdles, Bryce Joshlin was the lone Mountain Lion to grab a spot in tomorrow's final as he clocked a converted time of 8.61s that registered as the seventh-fastest time in the preliminary field.
- Senior Daryn Ofori-Kuragu led a group of five Mountain Lion sprinters that qualified for the event final in the men's 60m dash as he posted the second-fastest overall time in the preliminary field with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 6.82c. Freshman Noah Brown crossed the finish line just behind Ofori-Kuragu with the third-fastest time in the field at 6.85c, while freshman Michael Ryan Cruzado (6.96c – 4th), junior Luke Trinrud (6.99c – 6th), and freshman Julian Brantley (6.99c – 8th) also advanced to tomorrow's final.
- The Mountain Lions saw four of their five sprinters in the preliminary round of the women's 60m dash qualify for tomorrow's final as freshman Leiava Holliman and junior Taryn Fettig posted the two fastest times in the field at 7.70c and 7.71c, respectively. Freshmen Katie Jewell and Emili Voelker joined Holliman and Fettig in securing their position in the event final as Jewell clocked the fifth-fastest time in the field at 7.80c and Voelker raced to the sixth-fastest time at 7.82c.
- UCCS filled the top five spots among a 14-person field in the men's 400m, and it was senior Sebastien Jean leading the way for the group with a first-place time of 48.54c. Jean was followed across the finish line by freshman Revano Plummer in second place at 49.62c, freshman Hayden Fox in third place at 49.63c, freshman Josh Gross in fourth place at 49.69c, and redshirt junior Andrew Muncy in fifth place at 49.97c.
- In the women's 400m, redshirt senior Gigi Douillard surged to a second-place finish with a converted time of 1:00.27 while freshman Michelle Headley secured a third-place finish in the event with a converted time of 1:00.46.
- Sophomore Ceanna Dietz was one of just two runners competing in the 800m as she went on to beat out her opposition for a first-place finish with a converted time of 2:20.77.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- The Mountain Lions posted updates to the top five list in the indoor record book for four different events on Saturday, including the women's long jump, men's weight throw, women's weight throw, and pentathlon.
