Mountain Lions Record Program Best Second Place Finish at NCAA South Central Regional

PUEBLO, Colo. – The No. 3 ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team had five runners named to the USTFCCCA All-South Central Regional Team as it finished in second with 74 team points at the NCAA South Central Regional 6k, held at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colo.
 
INSIDE THE NCAA SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL

AROUND THE COURSE
  • The first runner to cross the finish line was Adams State University runner Tristian Spence with a time of 20:06.2. The first Mountain Lion to finish was sophomore Madison Brosig in ninth place with a time of 21:08.6.
  • Kate Henderson was the other Mountain Lion to finish the race in the top 10, placing in 10th with a time of 21:10.6. The next three Mountain Lions to tally points for the team were Kaya Pillivant (16th), Kseniya Nikanorov (17th), and Maddie Ruszkiewicz (22nd).
  • Placing first overall as a team was Adams State (42 points), followed by UCCS (74 points), Colorado School of Mines (82 points), Western Colorado University (111 points), and West Texas A&M (192 points).
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • Two of the top five point scorers hailed from Adams State, Spence being in first, and Ava O'Connor finishing second. Fort Lewis College's Hannah Hartwell finished in third place, with CSM's Emily Lamena in fourth, and Western Colorado's Allison Beasley in fifth.
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • Five Mountain Lions recorded career best 6k times today: Brosig (21:08.6), Henderson (21:10.6), Pillivant (21:19.8), Ruszkiewicz (21:36.6), and Kaley Fergus (22:44.8).
  • The Mountain Lions' second-place finish is a new program best for the NCAA South Central Regional. The team's previous best was a third-place finish, occurring seven times, including last year in Denver.
  • The Mountain Lions' top five finishers (Brosig, Henderson, Pillivant, Nikanorov, Ruszkiewicz) all qualified for the USTFCCCA All-South Central Regional Team.
 
UP NEXT
  • The qualifying field for the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championship meet will be announced on Monday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. (MT).  The national championship meet will be held on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wis. on the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course.  The women's 6k race will begin at 9 a.m. (MT) followed by the men's 10k race at 10:15 a.m. (MT).
