Mountain Lions Finish Sixth in NCAA South Central Regional

PUEBLO, Colo. – The No. 15 ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team accounted for 159 team points to place sixth overall and had two runners named to the USTFCCCA All-South Central Regional team in the NCAA South Central Regional 10k held at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colo.

AROUND THE COURSE
  • The best finish for the Mountain Lions on Saturday morning was Joseph Impellitteri in 21st place with a time of 31:07.2. The next UCCS runner to cross the finish line was Logan Cole in 25th with a time of 31:14.6.
  • The other three Mountain Lions to tally points were Brett Davis (32nd) with a time of 31:29.7, Koy Cunningham (40th) with a time of 31:53.7, and Caden Leal (41st) with a time of 31:54.1.
  • Placing first overall as a team was Adams State University (50 points). Second place was claimed by Colorado School of Mines (62 points), followed by Western Colorado University (75 points), Colorado Christian University (113 points), and West Texas A&M University (148 points). UCCS finished in sixth place with a total of 159 points.
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • The first-place finisher on Saturday was Weldon Chebon of New Mexico Highlands University with a time of 29:44.9.  The next two runners to cross the finish line hailed from Adams State, being Kidus Begashaw and Julian Campos. Ian Rono of Texas A&M International University and Adrian Legarreta of West Texas A&M University were next to round out the top five.
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • The Mountain Lions' Impellitteri (31:07.2) and Cunningham (31:53.7) both improved on their career best 10k times this morning.
  • Impellitteri and Cole both earn USTFCCCA All-South Region team honors for finishing in the top 25.
  • The Mountain Lions improved upon last season's NCAA South Central Regional finish, where they placed seventh overall.
 
UP NEXT
  • The qualifying field for the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championship meet will be announced on Monday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. (MT).  The national championship meet will be held on Nov. 22 in Kenosha, Wis. on the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course.  The women's 6k race will begin at 9 a.m. (MT) followed by the men's 10k race at 10:15 a.m. (MT).
