INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced the field for the 2025 Division II Cross Country Championships on Monday afternoon, and both University of Colorado Colorado Springs cross country programs have received a selection to the national championships. The Mountain Lions women's cross country team earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships with their runner-up finish at Saturday's NCAA South Central Regional Championship. The UCCS men's team, which finished sixth at the regional meet, is one of 10 teams receiving an at-large bid to the championship meet.
Thirty-four teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top three, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 24 teams. Ten additional teams were selected at-large. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process.
The championships will be held Saturday, November 22 in Kenosha, Wis. on the legendary Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course, located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Parkside. The women's 6k national championship race will begin at 9 a.m. (MT), with the men's 10 national championship race set to begin at 10:15 a.m. (MT).
As a team, the Mountain Lions will be competing in their 15
th NCAA Championship race (2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2006, 2004, and 2000). This year's national championship meet will be the ninth straight year UCCS has competed in the national championship race under head coach
Corey Kubatzky, and the 12
th time in the past 13 championships.
The UCCS men's program will be competing in the national meet for the 12
th time in program history (2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2018, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2008, 2004) and in their seventh straight national meet. Eleven of the 12 times UCCS has qualified as a team for the national meet have come under head coach
Mark Misch who took over the program in 2007.
The Mountain Lions are just one of six teams to have both men's and women's cross country teams qualify for the Division II championship meet the past seven years – Chico State University, Colorado School of Mines, Grand Valley State University, Lee University, and Western Colorado University.
