HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mavericks opened Saturday afternoon's game in complete control as they posted nine runs on nine hits including two home runs and blank doubles before two outs were recorded. CMU finished the top of the first up 10-0.
- UCCS was able to get themselves on the board after a Kit Wigington double down the right field line and a single to left field from Alec Gomez to make it 10-1.
- After a thirty-minute delay, Tyler Kennedy entered the game and CMU loaded the bases. Kennedy stayed composed, striking out two and forcing a ground out to first to go into the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Ronan Hella led off the bottom half of the fourth with an infield single which was followed immediately by a Caleb Stubbings two-run home run over the center field fence making the score 10-3 CMU. A few singles from Evan Steinberger and Kasey Campbell, a double from Vander Hodges, and a sacrifice flyout from Brady Lachemann made the score 10-5.
- Hella came up to bat for the second time in the inning with the bases juiced and two down. Hella sent a rope to the right-center field gap but Maverick's centerfielder, Robert Sharrar, made an incredible fully stretched out diving catch to save potentially three runs.
- CMU added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to go back up seven (12-5) and UCCS went one-two-three in the bottom half.
- The final two innings would come and go without any scoring, as the Mavericks take the victory on Saturday.
