Zlotoff Matches 1500m School Record on Final Day of Bryan Clay Invitational

AZUSA, Calif. – On their final day of competition in California, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team put together another strong day at the Bryan Clay Invitational as they combined to record seven NCAA provisional qualifying marks and saw redshirt sophomore Jagger Zlotoff match the school record for the men's 1500m.

HOW IT HAPPENED | BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
  • Racing underneath the lights at the Cougar Athletic Stadium in the invite section of the men's 1500m, redshirt sophomore Jagger Zlotoff matched the UCCS school record for the event as he clocked an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:45.18 in his first appearance in the event this outdoor season.
  • In the invite section of the women's 1500m, senior Kate Hedlund posted a season-best in the event by more than two full seconds as she improved her NCAA provisional qualifying time to 4:25.79. One day after breaking the school record in the 5K, junior Anna Fauske also returned to the track in the open A section of the women's 1500m and posted another strong mark, finishing with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:28.64.
  • For the second time in three days, the women's 4x100m relay team of Audrey Bloomquist, Taryn Fettig, Zane Bullock, and Victoria Farinas posted a new season-best time in the event as they clocked an improved NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 46.26s to finish 15th of 30 teams.
  • Redshirt senior Dillon Andrews posted a season-best NCAA provisional qualifying time in the men's 400m hurdles as he crossed the finish line in 52.69s to claim 13th place in the 54-person field.
  • In the women's 400m hurdles, freshman Krissie Sanders posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:01.68 that was just shy of her season-best in the event but still put her in position to finish 20th out of 55 competitors.
  • Senior Melissa Moreni put up an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the women's 100m hurdles as she clocked a time of 14.09s to finish 17th in the field of 52 hurdlers.
  • Redshirt senior Brian Mosley had a busy start to the day as he teamed up with Daryn Ofori-Kuragi, Kymani Sterling, and Donovan Mini in the 4x100m relay for a time of 41.27s that was good for ninth place overall among 21 relay teams. Mosley Jr. returned to the track less than two hours later in the men's 100m dash, where he earned an 11th place finish in the field of 115 competitors with a time of 10.60s.
  • On the women's side, Farinas also made her way back to the track in the women's 100m dash as she posted a time of 12.15s to finish 37th out of 90 competitors in the event.
  • Sterling and Ofori-Kuragu also returned to the track later in the day to compete in the men's 200m dash, and it was Sterling leading the way for UCCS with a time of 21.44s that was good for 21st overall in the 85-person field. Ofori-Kuragu completed the race in 22.25s to finish 74th overall.
  • Redshirt senior Sawyer Christopher finished inside the top-third of a 37-person field in the men's javelin throw as he came up just shy of his season-best with a toss of 57.03m.
  • In section A of the men's high jump, redshirt senior Skye Ciccarelli tied for sixth place as he cleared a bar height of 2.13m.
  • Senior Richard Safoh once again paced the men's team in the long jump as he recorded a leap of 7.28m to finish eighth out of 62 jumpers in the field. He was followed by sophomore Grant Haskins at a mark of 6.79m and Daryon Wilson at a jump of 6.34m.
  • In the men's triple jump, redshirt senior Peyton Turnage was the lone UCCS student-athlete in action and he went on to post a jump of 13.86m to finish 22nd overall.
  • On the women's side of the long jump, Christine Bailey was the top finisher for UCCS as she posted a leap of 5.53m to finish 35th in the competition. Right behind Bailey in the final standings was Madissyn Moore, who recorded a jump of 5.49m to finish 37th.
  • UCCS also had a pair of student-athletes competing in the women's triple jump in Bloomquist and Bailey. Bloomquist led the duo with a mark of 11.83m to finish 23rd overall, while Bailey notched a jump of 11.34m to claim 38th place.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • With just one weekend remaining until the start of the 2024 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, UCCS has recorded 29 NCAA provisional qualifying marks, including 16 on the men's side and 13 on the women's side.

  • In their final weekend of competition before the conference championship meet, UCCS will travel to Golden, Colo., to compete at the Kit Mayer Classic on Saturday, April 20.
