Mountain Lions Add Trio of All-America Honors on Day Two of NCAA DII Outdoor Championships

EMPORIA, Kan. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team put together another strong day of competition on day two of the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday as they added a trio of Second Team All-America accolades.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Redshirt junior Joseph Impellitteri put together a gritty race in the men's 3,000m steeplechase final as he galloped to Second Team All-America accolades in the event with a ninth-place time of 9:00.21.
  • In the women's 3,000m steeplechase final, Kate Henderson wrapped up her incredible freshman season with Second Team All-America honors as she completed the race in a time of 10:39.44.
  • Junior Evan Atkin finished the final five events of the men's decathlon on Friday and wound up recording a score of 6,215 points, finishing 14th overall in the field and earning Second Team All-America distinction. The native of Craig, Colo. started his day by scoring 697 points in the 110m hurdles (16.32s) and 534 points in the discus throw (33.51m) before finishing up with 673 points in the pole vault (4.20m), 389 points in the javelin throw (36.29m), and 404 points in the 1500m (5:29.10).
  • In the preliminary round of the women's 100m hurdles, junior Krissie Sanders raced to a time of 14.00s as she finished sixth in her heat and 17th overall in the field.
  • Sophomore Payton Rodgers made her outdoor nationals debut in the women's triple jump and posted a mark of 11.60m on her first jump of the competition before fouling her next two attempts and finishing in 20th place overall.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • With his ninth-place finish in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, Impellitteri became the first All-American in the event in UCCS program history.
  • Henderson joined Molly Breuer as a Second Team All-American in the women's 3,000m steeplechase as the duo became the first two student-athletes to garner All-America distinction in the event since the 2006 campaign.
  • Atkin becomes the second student-athlete in program history to earn All-America accolades in the men's decathlon, joining two-time Second Team All-American Thorben Hast (2023-24).

  • The Mountain Lions will have a pair of men's student-athletes competing on the third and final day of the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships tomorrow as KJ McInnis will open the day in the men's triple jump at 1:15 p.m. (MT) followed by Brett Davis in the men's 5,000m race at 5:30 p.m. (MT).
