COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second straight game, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team earned a tightly contested game as the Mountain Lions took down Concordia University St. Paul Wednesday afternoon inside Mountain Lion Stadium, 8-7. Today's win comes two days after UCCS notched a 15-14 overtime win over Dominican University of California.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: CUSP 3, UCCS 2
- The Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul took advantage of a UCCS turnover and turned it into a goal as Cayla Jungwirth scored her 10th goal of the season at 11:48 in the first quarter. Freshman Emma Grace Martin helped the Mountain Lions tie the game when she found Julia Patrick to put UCCS on the scoreboard, 1-1. Back-to-back goals from the visiting team gave CUSP a 3-1 lead, but Sydnee Anne-Moeller won the draw control coming off of the Bears third goal that led to a Sarah Urbanic-to-Jaden Sellers connection with just seven ticks left in the opening stanza that cut into CUSP's lead, 3-2.
SECOND QUARTER: CUSP 2, UCCS 1
- The second period was a defensive battle as both goalies combined to make seven saves and allow just three goals. Both teams held each other scoreless for the first nine minutes of action before the Bears' Haily Hartlage broke the scoring drought with 5:52 left in the half. Martin brought the Mountain Lions back within one goal when she converted on a free position shot as UCCS went into halftime trailing the Bears, 5-3.
THIRD QUARTER: UCCS 2, CUSP 1
- Coming out of the intermission, Urbanic scored back-to-back goals, including a player-up goal with 9:26 left in the third quarter to knot the game at 5-5, but the Bears wasted no time as Susie Monson added her own player-up goal to push the blue and gold ahead of UCCS, 6-5, after three complete quarters.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 3, CUSP 1
- Urbanic came in clutch again for the Mountain Lions, scoring her third straight goal of the game for UCCS on a Patrick assist to knot the game at 6-6. For the third time of the afternoon, the Bears broke the tie to snag a 7-6 lead with 9:04 left in regulation. Patrick and the Mountain Lions went to work and tied the Bears for the fourth time of the day. Patrick then netted the equalizer goal on a free-position shot with 2:28 remaining. Urbanic won the ensuing draw that led to Brielle Fannin assisting Patrick on the game-winning goal just 30 seconds later, giving UCCS their first lead of the game and the 8-7 victory.
FINAL SCORE: UCCS 8, CUSP 7
GAME STATISTICS
- Urbanic and Patrick both scored three goals and assisted on one each for a game high four points. Urbanic finished the game with six shots and four ground balls, while Patrick attempted five shots and went 1-for-3 on free position shots.
- Goalie Madison McGriff notched double digit saves, stopping 13-of-20 shots on goal by the Bears and picking up six ground balls.
- Seven different Mountain Lions caused a turnover while Moeller won four of UCCS' nine draws.
- As a team, UCCS finished with 21 shots, 13 saves, 29 ground balls, nine draws and were successful on 20-of-21 clears.
- The Golden Bears were led by Jungwrith's three points (two goals) and six shot attempts.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Patrick has recorded 26 multiple-goal games in her career, including 17 hat tricks.
- Urbanic posted her second straight hat trick of her career and is tied with Patrick for most goals (nine). She also notched a season high six shots.
- The Mountain Lions' 21 shots, 29 ground balls, seven caused turnovers and 20 clears are all season highs.
