COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team fell short Tuesday afternoon to Rockhurst University, 14-11. The loss at Mountain Lion Stadium moves UCCS to 2-2 in the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: RU 6, UCCS 3
- Rockhurst went to work quickly Tuesday morning, netting the first three goals of the game in the opening four minutes. Emma Grace Martin put UCCS on the scoreboard with a free position goal for her sixth score of the season. Brielle Fannin connected with Allie Schell at 6:53 to cut into the Hawks lead, 3-2. On the ensuing draw control, Rockhurst won the draw and put the ball in the back of the net 33 seconds later before Fannin added her second point of the contest on a goal. Rockhurst put two more goals on the scoreboard as UCCS ended the first stanza down by three, 6-3.
SECOND QUARTER: RU 4, UCCS 2
- The Mountain Lions immediately closed their three-goal deficit as Julia Patrick scored a player-up goal less than two minutes into the second period. Martin, who assisted on Patrick's goal, added another player-up goal less than 90 seconds later, bringing UCCS within one goal of the Hawks, 6-5. Martin's goal would be the last score of the half for the Mountain Lions as Rockhurst tallied four unanswered goals to end the first half and take a 10-5 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER: UCCS 2, RU 1
- Trailing by six goals, 11-5, Kiley Cuddahy ended a nearly 20-minute scoring drought for the Mountain Lions on her first goal of the game and second of the season. Twenty-six seconds later Ava Goodnature netted her first goal of the season on an assist from Erica Rivera as UCCS ended three quarters of action down 11-7 to the Hawks.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 4, RU 3
- The black and gold continued to chip away at the Hawks lead in the final stanza. Naomi Bram won the opening draw of the fourth quarter that led to a goal by Peyton Ross just 53 seconds into the quarter. On the ensuing possession, Bram won the draw again as Ross then assisted Ava Goodnature 48 seconds later, bringing UCCS within two goals of RU, 11-9. Martin's third goal of the game at 10:01 capped off a 5-0 scoring run by UCCS and put the Mountain Lions within one goal of the Hawks, 11-10, but Rockhurst outscored the Mountain Lions, 3-1 to finish the game, handing the Mountain Lions a 14-11 setback at home.
FINAL SCORE: RU 14, UCCS 11
GAME STATISTICS
- Grace Martin notched three goals and an assist today as all five of her shots were on frame.
- Patrick attempted a team high six shots (four shots on goal) and added two ground balls.
- Goodnature also put two goals in the back of the net and Fannin assisted on two goals and scored one goal for three points while also causing two turnovers.
- Casey Good, Meghan Weiss and Jessie Ackerman each picked up three ground balls.
- Madison McGriff played all 60 minutes in goal, making 14 saves for a .500 save percentage.
- Mackenzie Blair of Rockhurst led both teams with four goals and an assist.
- The Hawks held the advantage in shots (35-30) and draw controls (20-8). UCCS picked up 27 ground balls to RU's 24.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UCCS notched several season highs this afternoon against Rockhurst, including assists (six), shots (30), shots on goal (20) and caused turnovers (eight).
- Patrick tied an individual season high in shots (six) and shots on goal (five) while Fannin's two caused turnovers also tied a season high.
- Martin's hat trick today is the second of the season (second career hat trick).
- Patrick has recorded 27 multiple-goal games in her career, including 17 hat tricks.
