COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In a high scoring affair, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team suffered a 20-15 setback Tuesday afternoon to Missouri Western State University inside Mountain Lion Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: UCCS 5, MWSU 2
- Seven minutes ran off the clock before the Mountain Lions recorded the first goal of the game. Madison McGriff made one of her 14 saves in the game that led to a successful clear attempt as Sarah Urbanic teamed up with Julia Patrick for a 1-0 lead. A Griffons goal tied the game at 1-1 but UCCS turned up the tempo with Urbanic finding the back of the net before Allie Schell converted on a free-position shot followed by a player-up goal from Ava Goodnature 32 seconds later. Goodnature struck again for another player-up goal as the Mountain Lions claimed a 5-2 lead after one quarter of action.
SECOND QUARTER: MWSU 10, UCCS 6
- The Griffons responded in the second stanza. Coming off their second goal of the game with 35 seconds left in the opening period, Missouri Western State rattled off six straight goals to take an 8-5 lead. The deficit didn't last long for the home team as Erica Rivera, Peyton Ross and Brielle Fannin netted three goals in one minute to knot the game at 8-8 with 8:57 left in the half.
- A green card on the Griffons gave the Mountain Lions an extra player on the field and Casey Good benefited from the advantage to score her first collegiate goal and tie the game for the second time of the quarter, 9-9. Three goals from the visiting team put the Mountain Lions down, 12-9, but Patrick and Urbanic (player-up goal) finished the half with two scores with 37 seconds left as UCCS trailed MWSU at the half, 12-11.
THIRD QUARTER: MWSU 3, UCCS 1
- The Griffons Serah Ryals scored two of the three Griffons goals in the third stanza as Fannin notched the Mountain Lions only goal of the quarter on an assist from Rivera.
FOURTH QUARTER: MWSU 5, UCCS 3
- Entering the final quarter down by three, 15-12, Rivera connected with Patrick for a player-down goal with 12:07 left. Ross won the ensuing draw control which quickly led to Patrick assisting Rivera on her fifth goal of the season at 11:11, bringing the Mountain Lions within one goal of the Griffons, 15-14. The Griffons, however, would outscore UCCS, 5-1, in the final half of the quarter, handing the Mountain Lions a 20-15 loss.
FINAL SCORE: MWSU 20, UCCS 15
GAME STATISTICS
- Five Mountain Lions recorded multiple goals today with Patrick and Urbanic each posting a hat trick. Patrick notched a team high six points with three assists to go with her three goals.
- Fannin, Rivera and Goodnature each chipped in two goals apiece.
- Kathryn Kossack, Kendra Knutson, McGriff and Rivera each picked up three ground balls while Kossack and Meghan Weiss accounted for two caused turnovers each.
- Urbanic won a team high four draws and finished the game with three goals, one assist and five shots.
- MSWU's Serah Ryals led both teams with seven goals and 13 shot attempts (11 shots on goal).
- McGriff tallied 14 saves and allowed 17 goals in 51 minutes of action.
- Missouri Western State led UCCS in shots (46-32), shots on goal (35-27), ground balls (31-21), and draws (22-16). The Mountain Lions forced the Griffons to commit 13 turnovers and 18 fouls.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Mountain Lions posted several season highs Tuesday afternoon, including most goals (15, tied), points (23), assists (eight), shots (32) and shots on goal (27).
- Patrick tied an individual season high in points (six) and shots on goal (five), while her seven shot attempts were the most by any Mountain Lion this season.
- Urbanic notched her third hat trick of the season and has scored at least two goals in four of five games this season.
- Patrick has recorded 28 multiple-goal games in her career, including 18 hat tricks. She moves up the career charts in shots on goal (third, 156), shots (fourth, 203), and her player-down goal is the third of her career, tying her for the most all-time.
- Fannin takes sole possession of 10th place in the record books for most shots on goal all-time (65).
- McGriff's three ground balls today brings her career total to 165. She needs four more ground balls to tie Ellie O'Brien for the most all-time (169).
