HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER: UCCS 2, FLC 1
- Allie Schell connected with Jaden Sellers three minutes from the start of the game to put UCCS on the scoreboard first. A defensive stance by both teams kept UCCS with the one goal lead for nearly eight minutes before the Skyhawks tied the game on a Caprietta Abbadessa goal. Meghan Weiss scooped up a ground ball on a Fort Lewis turnover that led to Brielle Fannin netting her first goal of the game as UCCS took a 2-1 lead after one quarter of action.
SECOND QUARTER: FLC 4, UCCS 3
- Fort Lewis' Mikki Brown tied the game on a free position goal, but a draw control win from Erica Rivera led to a goal from Julia Patrick just 36 seconds later. Abbadessa tied the game again with 7:05 left in the half, 3-3, before FLC struck again to take their first lead of the game, 4-3. Fannin and Patrick quickly squelched FLC's lead with back-to-back goals, but Abbadessa answered for FLC a minute later to knot the game at 5-5 heading into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER: UCCS 1, FLC 1
- The Mountain Lions lone goal of the third stanza came from Emma Grace Martin who netted her 11th goal of the season at 11:52, but the Skyhawks responded with Abbadessa's fourth game-tying goal of the game.
FOURTH QUARTER: UCCS 6, FLC 2
- Tied at 6-6 to start the final stanza, the Mountain Lions offense broke open to score six goals and secure a 12-8 win. After each team netted a goal, the Mountain Lions took advantage of FLC penalties, scoring five straight player-up goals to snag a 12-7 lead. Fannin's third goal of the game on an assist from Martin proved to be the game-winning goal. FLC was able to add one more goal to the scoreboard with 1:52 left in regulation, but the home team held the blue and gold at bay to earn the win.
