- All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions' all-time record vs the Cougars moves to 24-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions got the scoring started in the opening half inning thanks to back-to-back hits from Alec Gomez and Caleb Stubbings. Gomez's two out single set up Stubbings RBI double to give UCCS the one run advantage after the first three outs.
- CCU wasted no time in their half of the first inning, with all nine batters earning an at bat in the first. Mark Sipila faced ten hitters in the inning, and was only able to set down two. Giving up eight hits and six runs, five earned, Sipila gave way to Evan Reynolds who finished the frame and kept the score at 6-1.
- The Mountain Lions got a run back in the third inning, and again it was Caleb Stubbings with and RBI double to bring in Alec Gomez.
- The Cougars responded with Caden Walton coming across on a wild pitch in the seventh, but that would be the only blemish for Evan Reynolds in 6.1 innings of work after relieving Sipila.
- The Mountain Lions made their patented late game push in the ninth scoring two. One came on an Alec Gomez sacrifice fly, with the second being Colton Trudeau coming in on a balk. The late effort would fall short, with CCU picking up the 7-4 win at home to open the series.
