PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track & field teams competed on day one of the Spank Blasing Invitational on Friday at the CSUP ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions saw a trio of strong performances in the women's triple jump, led by redshirt junior Christine Bailey, who posted a personal best mark of 11.87m that was good for second overall in the competition and ranks fifth all-time in UCCS women's outdoor program history. Sophomore Kathryn Carroll also put forth a personal best effort as she leapt to a mark of 11.35m to finish sixth overall, while freshman Brielle Bracken made her collegiate outdoor debut in the event with a seventh-place finish at 11.29m.
- In the women's hammer throw, redshirt senior Anna Holland made her outdoor season debut with a mark of 51.75m that was good for third overall in the field of 35 competitors. Redshirt senior Cassielynn Bonner also finished inside the top-half of the field, earning a 13th place finish with a toss of 46.41m.
- Redshirt senior Sawyer Christopher made his season debut in the men's javelin throw and went on to post a second-place finish among the field of 22 throwers with a mark of 57.60m. Senior Thorben Hast also made his season debut in the event, posting a throw of 49.17m to finish in tenth place.
- Junior Luke Hard paced the Mountain Lions in the men's hammer throw as he posted a season-best mark of 52.40m to finish seventh overall in the field of 29 competitors. Sophomore Michael Roberts came up just shy of his season-best for the event as he finished in eighth place overall at a mark of 51.22m.
- In the women's javelin throw, freshman Lanette St. John was the top Mountain Lion finisher as she posted a seventh place toss of 35.02m in her collegiate debut in the event. Finishing just behind St. John was senior Caroline Walters with a toss of 34.29m that put her in eighth place overall.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- The Mountain Lions had a trio of student-athletes come up just shy of hitting the NCAA provisional qualifying threshold for their events, with Bailey coming up just ten centimeters short in the women's triple jump while Holland and Christopher were less than one meter away from the mark in the women's hammer throw and men's javelin throw, respectively.

- The Spank Blasing Invitational will continue tomorrow morning from the CSUP ThunderBowl with the track events set to start at 10 a.m. followed by field events at 11 a.m.
