HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UCCS started senior night firing on all cylinders as they opened the game on a 12-0 run including back-to-back jumpers from Krystina Hagood, a trey and lay-in from Riley Ottmann, and a jumper from Briana Knabe.
  • After two free throws from NMHU got them on the board, the Mountain Lions continued to apply the pressure as they went on a 7-0 run in 55 seconds to see themselves up 19-2 with 4:21 to go in the first frame. Jessica Nation would net two buckets before the first quarter's end and UCCS would hold a 23-7 lead going into the second quarter.
  • The start of the second frame was a quiet one from the Mountain Lions as they were held scoreless in the first four minutes and thirty seconds of action. UCCS found their form again as they went on an 8-0 scoring run from the 5:21 through 3:26 mark where Maison White collected her sixth and eighth points of the contest on crafty post moves.
  • An Amyah Moore Allen step back midrange jumper and a Breelyn Robinson spot up three-ball in the last three minutes of the first half would help the Mountain Lions see a commanding 37-19 lead going into intermission.
  • Out of the break, UCCS got a pair of buckets from Hagood and White, but the Cowgirls would quickly reply by going on a 10-3 run. Each team traded baskets throughout the third quarter, but the Mountain Lions would remain comfortably on top as Alexa Dominguez hit a turn around jumper to have UCCS up 52-38 going into the final quarter.
  • To start the fourth, the Mountain Lions grew back their lead to 18 (60-42) at the 7:24 mark after Sydney Nilles connected with White for an easy deuce. From then on, UCCS did everything they needed to do to maintain the lead and would coast on to win the game 71-57.
