PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team give up five ninth inning runs Monday afternoon to lose series vs Colorado State University Pueblo.
INSIDE THE MATCH UP
- Final Score: UCCS 8, CSUP 9
- Records: UCCS (4-16, 1-3 RMAC) | CSUP (14-6, 3-1 RMAC)
- Facility | Location: Rawlings Field | Pueblo, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS wasted no time getting to work on offense, having Hayden Iverson single on the second pitch of the game to break the ice. With Kit Wigington walking in the ensuing at bat, Alec Gomez came to the batter's box with two runners on. Firing at the first offering, Gomez launched a three-run shot to left center field, and UCCS claimed the early advantage.
- After retiring the first three ThunderWolves, UCCS came back to the plate in the second and added to their lead. Once again it was Gomez at the dish, this time reaching on a fielder's choice to bring in Aaron Brakel and push the lead to 4-0.
- Colorado State Pueblo would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the second with Elijah Borjas crossing on a wild pitch, and Brad Stone scoring on a double-play-ground out from Brady Ingalls to cut the lead in half.
- UCCS would get the pair of runs back in the third, powered by a Colton Trudeau RBI single to score Vander Hodges, then Aaron Brakel hit a sacrifice to knock in Evan Steinberger and restore the four-run lead at 6-2.
- The Mountain Lions tacked on another pair in the fifth with Hayden Iverson and Kit Wigington both swatting RBI singles, and with the lead at 8-2 UCCS seemed to be in the drivers seat towards an RMAC opening series split.
- Unfortunately for the Mountain Lions, after the fifth inning runs, the Thunderwolves scored seven unanswered down the stretch, capped off by a Elijah Borjas grand slam in the ninth that walked off UCCS and gave CSU Pueblo the game and series victory.
