PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team made a late push against Colorado State University Pueblo Tuesday afternoon but couldn't get over the hump, losing 11-7.
INSIDE THE MATCH UP
- Final Score: UCCS 7, CSUP 11
- Records: UCCS (2-5, 0-0 RMAC) | CSUP (3-0, 0-0 RMAC)
- Facility | Location: Rawlings Field | Pueblo, Colo.
- All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions are 12-13 all-time vs the ThunderWolves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The ThunderWolves got things started in the second inning when Joseph Quintana came across on a Joe Plise passed ball to give CSUP the first lead of the game. Two batters later, Kade Snodgrass singled to left center field, allowing Jeremiah Sanchez to come around and double the lead at 2-0.
- In the top of the third frame, UCCS got their offense up in running with a Ronan Hella bunt single followed by a Kit Wigington base on balls. This put two on with one out for the hottest bat in the line-up, Alec Gomez. The junior transfer stayed hot, launching a three run jack to left-center field to put UCCS on top 3-2.
- The next two innings for the ThunderWolves would be the tale of the game, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the third, getting hits from Cole Knightley (home run), Brady Ingalls (single), Snodgrass (single), Wyatt Reginato (single), and Brad Stone (double), all with two outs to bring the score to 9-3. In the following home at-bats in the fourth, again it was Kade Snodgrass with a two run homer to bring the score to 11-3.
- UCCS would salvage runs in the eighth and ninth innings, earning a two run single from Joe Plise in the eighth, with a pair of RBI singles from Colton Trudeau and Aaron Jenkins in the ninth, but it wouldn't be enough, falling in Pueblo 11-7.
