NEW ORLEANS, La. – Heading into the final race of the 2024 cross country season, the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association released the Division II Coaches' Week 7 polls Wednesday afternoon. Following last weekend's NCAA South Central Regional championships, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team moved up four spots to No. 5 in Division II with 199 points, while the men's team slipped to No. 19 with 96 points.
The Mountain Lions women's team received an automatic bid to the national championship after running to a third-place team finish at the NCAA South Central Regional championship. UCCS was led by
Anna Fauske and
Kate Hedlund who ran to all-regional performances. Fauske finished second in the regional championship with a time of 21:20.68 as Hedlund crossed the finish line in 25
th place (22:53.48).
The UCCS men's program received an at-large bid after finishing seventh at the South Central Regional championship.
Jagger Zlotoff paced the Mountain Lions with a 22
nd place finish in a time of 32:16.97, earning his first career all-region cross country honor, and leading the Mountains for the fourth race this season.
Both No. 1 teams in each coaches' poll remain unchanged with the Wingate University men's team and Adams State University's women's team receiving all eight first-place votes for 240 points.
The Mountain Lions will run in their last race of the season on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the NCAA Division II Championship meet in Sacramento, Calif. The men's 10k championship race will begin at 11 a.m. (MT), followed by the women's 6k championship race at 12:15 p.m. (MT).
