No. 5 Women’s Cross Country Earns 7th Place Finish at Live In Lou Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Competing against multiple Division I programs and seven nationally ranked Division II teams, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team finished seventh overall out of 36 teams Saturday morning at the Live In Lou Classic.  The Mountain Lions bested four top-25 programs after picking up 292 team points.

AROUND THE COURSE
  • Kate Hedlund and Anna Fauske finished back-to-back, crossing the finish line in 13th and 14th place, respectively.  Hedlund clocked a time of 17:19.1 as Fauske put down a new career 5k time of 17:22.0.
  • Behind Hedlund and Fauske and in 71st place was Rachel Richtman, earning a time of 18:06.0.  After Richtman in 84th place was Molly Breuer in 18:13.2. 
  • Bringing in the Mountain Lions top five was Rachel Goodrich's time of 18:33.0 that placed her 126th overall.
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • Gladys Chepngetich of Clemson University led all 325 runners Saturday morning with a time of 16:43.4.
  • Grand Valley State University, ranked No. 2 in Division II, won the 36 team meet with 58 points.  GVSU bettered the No. 1 Division II team, Adams State University, by 37 points.  ASU finished runner-up while the only other Top-25 team to finish ahead of UCCS was No. 10 Lee University.
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • UCCS' seventh place finish put them ahead of No. 11 Cedarville, No. 18 Pittsburg State, No. 24 Azusa Pacific University and No. 25 Mississippi College.
  • Also boasting career best times alongside Fauske was Audrey Brunken who tallied a time of 18:47.2 (158th place).
  • Emma Montoya and Kseniya Nikanorov ran in their first 5k race for the Mountain Lions this morning.  Montoya finished 126th overall with a time of 18:33.0.  Nikanorov, who transferred to UCCS from Cal State University Monterey Bay, earned a new 5k personal best time today, posting a 181st place finish in 18:57.6.
  • Back home in Colorado Springs at the Colorado College Ted Castaneda 6k Classic, Abby Bartel and Kaya Pillivant ran for the Mountain Lions while recording personal best times.  Bartel notched a ninth place finish in 23:01.95 while Pillivant posted a 19th place finish in 24:04.09.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will have several runners compete at the UCCS XC Open on Friday, Oct. 6, before competing in the 2023 RMAC Championships on Oct 21.
