HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS brought the pressure early and often with the Mountain Lions rifling seven shots in the first thirty minutes of play. WCU keeper Mei Hayashizaki was up to the task for those first seven chances, but the third finally found its way in giving the Mountain Lions the lead.
- In the 36th minute, the Mountain Lions broke through with Emily Aguilar claiming the goal after receiving a pass off the right wing from Jadyn LeDoux, Aguilar's shot was too strong for Hayashizaki who did get a hand on it, but it trickled in giving UCCS the one goal advantage.
- WCU struggled to find their footing in the first frame, and the Mountain Lions took their lead into the recess.
- The second half featured more back and forth action, with Western Colorado beginning to put more pressure on the UCCS defenders. After failing to attempt a shot in the first half, the Mountaineers attempted five shots, with one landing on frame.
- UCCS wasn't finished offensively as the 67th minute Ciara Garcia showed off her blazing speed, beating a defender down the sideline and finishing a shot in the top right of the frame.
- WCU would continue the pressure in the second half, but a lack of chances making it into the final third kept the Mountaineers scoreless at the full-time whistle.
