No. 18 Men’s Cross Country Takes Fifth Place at UM Roy Griak Invite

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. – The 18th-ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team had an impressive outing Friday morning at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational, held at the UM Lee Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn.  The Mountain Lions racked up 194 points to finish fifth out of 33 teams.

AROUND THE COURSE
  • Gavin Harden and Jagger Zlotoff paced the Mountain Lions finishing 17th and 18th overall, respectively.  Harden clocked a time of 26:14.9, just one second ahead of Zlottoff's mark of 26:15.9.
  • Competing in his second collegiate race, freshman Brett Davis earned a 39th place finish with a time of 26:48.3.
  • Logan Cole and Jack Donze brought home the Mountain Lions scorers. Cole's time of 27:03.1 put him in 60th place overall, ahead of Donze's 73rd place finish in 27:13.7.
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • Indiana Wesleyan, which finished fourth at the 2022 NAIA National Championship, won the 33-team meet behind 58 points as six of their top runners finished in the top 20. 
  • Ransom Allen of Wayne State University (Mich.) led all 462 finishers Friday morning with a time of 25:18.4.
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • Only two Division II teams finished ahead of UCCS.  Wayne State (92 points) placed second overall and No. 7 Augustana finished fourth overall (118 points).
  • The 2022 NAIA National Champion, Dordt University, posted a third place team finish.
  • UCCS finished ahead of No. 17 Michigan Tech University.  The Huskies were ninth overall with 260 points.
  • This is only the second time UCCS has ran at the UM Roy Griak Invitational.  The last time was in 2012 when the Mountain Lions won the 36-team meet.
  • Of the 33 teams in the Maroon race, 16 were Division II members.
  • Pablo Lomeli competed for the first time for UCCS, recording a time of 29:01.5 to finish 222nd overall.

  • UCCS will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 6 at the UCCS Cross Country Open.
