CLEVELAND, Ohio – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Department of Athletics finished the 2022-23 season ranked 45
th in the final Learfield Directors' Cup Division II standings, announced on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions entered the spring season with 274.5 points and added 101 points during the spring championship season to bring their yearly total to 375.5 points.
The
Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (
NACDA) and
USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in the 2022-23 NCAA Fall, Winter and Spring.
UCCS collected 56.5 points from the men's outdoor track and field program that put on a strong showing at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field championships in Pueblo, Colo. The Mountain Lions finished the three-day meet in a tie for 17
th place overall. The women's track & field team garnered 24.5 points toward the Learfield Directors' Cup standings after finishing the championship meet in a tie for 47
th place. Between the two programs, 12 Mountain Lions earned All-America nods. The Mountain Lions men's golf team wrapped up the 2022-23 season with a 14
th place finish at the 20-team NCAA South Central/ West Region championships, chipping in 53 points toward UCCS' point total.
For the 15th time in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup history, Grand Valley State University will take home the hardware after compiling 936.75 total points in 17 total sports, including one of the four sports that must be counted. The Lakers tallied two runner-up finishes – women's cross country and softball – along with two third-place finishes (men's indoor track and field and women's lacrosse).
UCCS is one of seven teams from the RMAC to be ranked in the top 50 of the 238-team standings. Colorado School of Mines led all RMAC schools with 855 points for a third-place finish, followed by Colorado State University Pueblo (16
th place, 550.25 points), Adams State University (19
th place, 523 points), Colorado Mesa University (27
th place, 466 points), Western Colorado University (30
th place, 435.5 points), and Colorado Christian University (43
rd place (375.5 points).
