Lauryn Shockley has been named the recipient of the 2023 UCCS Athletics Director Award. The starting outside hitter/right side for the Mountain Lions volleyball team, Shockley started eight matches this past season before suffering a season-ending injury. The UCCS Athletics Director Award is bestowed as a special recognition for student-athletes who have shown outstanding character, perseverance, leadership, resilience, etc. throughout their career as a Mountain Lion.
"Lauryn has shown great leadership and positivity during what I know has been a challenging year," said UCCS Executive Director of Athletics Nathan Gibson. "Going through a coaching change and season ending injury for what was planned to be her Senior year, Lauren has shown leadership and is using this adversity for good, supporting not just her team, but also other student-athletes. We are very proud of Lauren and I cannot wait to see her back on the court this Fall!"
