COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore outside hitter
Payton Tompkins of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team has earned 2025 Academic All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First Team honors, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Tompkins is one of 15 RMAC student-athletes to earn First Team distinction, and one of seven Mountain Lions to receive Academic All-RMAC recognition:
Audrey Dowd,
Michelle Fredrick,
Alysse Marcoso,
Maylen Mitrovich,
Mackenzie Ransom and
Sydnee Walker.
Metropolitan State University of Denver sophomore Alyssa Boyte claims the RMAC Academic Player of the Year award, leading the 15-member First Team Academic All-RMAC Team as selected by the league's athletic communications directors.
Each institution's athletic communications directors nominate student-athletes who academically maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, along with the other criteria for the Academic Honor Roll, for recognition on the First Team Academic All-RMAC in each sport. The league's athletic communications directors for that sport vote to compose the First Team Academic All-RMAC and select the Academic Player of the Year. They are not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.
The RMAC Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport who academically maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, have completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution, and have used a season of competition.
An All-RMAC First Team selection in 2025, Tompkins is one of the top offensive threats in the league, ranking third in kills per set (3.5), fourth in attacks per set (9.5), and points per set (4.0). One of three Mountain Lions to have started all 29 matches this season, Tompkins has put down at least 10 kills in 22 matches. The Dallas, Texas native, who is earning a degree in Business, has added 26 aces, 39 blocks, and dug up 241 attacks.
2025 RMAC VOLLEYBALL ALL-ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL
Tompkins and the Mountain Lions (26-3) won the 2025 RMAC Regular Season, sharing the title with Metropolitan State University of Denver. UCCS earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA South Central Regional tournament and will take on No. 7 seed Colorado School of Mines in Thursday's quarterfinal round at 11 a.m. on the campus of MSU Denver.
