Volleyball Receives No. 2 seed in 2025 NCAA South Central Regional Tournament

11/24/2025 6:58:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team received an at-large bid to the 64-team 2025 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship, announced Monday night.  The Mountain Lions are the No. 2 seed in the eight-team South Central Regional Tournament, which will be hosted by Metropolitan State University of Denver on Dec. 4-6 in Denver, Colo.  Tonight's nod into the NCAA tournament is just the second time UCCS has received a bid to the postseason (2007).

UCCS will face No. 7 seed Colorado School of Mines in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, Dec. 4.  The winner between UCCS and Mines will take on the winner between No. 3 seed Angelo State University and No. 6 seed Lubbock Christian University on Friday, Dec. 5 in the semifinal round.

The top half of the bracket will feature top-seed MSU Denver and No. 8 seed Colorado Mesa University.  Rounding out the bracket is No. 4 seed West Texas A&M University, which is pitted against No. 5 seed Colorado State University Pueblo.

Thursday's quarterfinal meeting against the Orediggers will be the third meeting between the two squads.  UCCS snapped an 18-match losing streak to Mines on Sept. 20 with a 3-0 sweep in Colorado Springs, Colo.  Both teams faced off against each other in a non-conference match on Oct. 31 in Durango, Colo., with the Mountain Lions winning the match in four sets.

The 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Tara Hittle, has led the Mountain Lions to their best season in program history.  Clocking her 50th career win at UCCS on Oct. 25 against Colorado Christian University, Hittle and the Mountain Lions have set numerous program records, including first RMAC regular season title, most wins to start a season (12-0), longest winning streak (14), most wins in a season (26), and best winning percentage (26-3, .897).

The Mountain Lions hosted their first RMAC playoff match last week, sweeping No. 7 seed Fort Lewis College on Nov. 18.  UCCS was 2-15 entering the conference tournament last week, and matched their most wins in tournament history after disposing of FLC and then Colorado State University Pueblo, 3-0, in the semifinal round, before falling to top seed MSU Denver in the RMAC Championship match.  Saturday's match against the Roadrunners was just the second time in program history that UCCS has reached the championship match.
