Mountain Lions Add Power Forward Iweze to Roster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball head coach Jeff Culver has added power forward Jesse Iweze to the 2023-24 Mountain Lions roster.
 
"We are very excited to have Jesse join our Mountain Lion family!" commented Culver.  "He will be an excellent addition to our front line on both ends of the floor.  Jesse is also an outstanding student and will represent our program well!"
 
A transfer student-athlete from West Texas A&M University, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound Roanoke, Texas native was named to the Lone Star Conference All-Freshman team in 2021-22.  In his first season with the Buffs, Iweze started 24 games and averaged 6.2 points and 4.3 rebounds while accounting for 35 steals, 15 blocked shots and 21 assists.  In two years at West Texas, Iweze started 26 games and saw action in 64.  He netted 4.5 points per game and reigned in 3.5 rebounds in two seasons, and contributed 42 steals, 28 assists and 20 blocks.  A solid shooter from the floor, Iweze drained 55.4 percent (97-of-175) and made 63.3 percent from the charity stripe.
 
Iweze is a 2021 product of Byron Nelson High School.  During his senior year, he averaged a double-double behind 15.7 points and 10.6 rebounds while earning District 4-6A Co-Most Valuable Player honors.  An all-region selection, he helped the Bobcats win the District, Bi-District and Area Championship titles.
 
UCCS closed out the 2022-23 season owning a 15-14 overall record and a 9-13 mark in league games.
