Men's Basketball Season Recap

MEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON RECAP
  • The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team finished with an above .500 overall record for the second straight season, ending with a 15-14 record overall and 10-10 in RMAC play.  
  • The Mountain Lions started the season with a 90-97 loss to Midwestern State University and a 91-85 victory over Cameron University before going 1-1 at the Southwest Airlines Big Island Invitational in Hilo, Hawaii. They would then go on to defeat Western Washington University 85-81 before falling to Simon Fraser University 84-87.  
  • Conference play began with two home wins against Colorado Mesa University and Westminster University before the Mountain Lions tallied their first RMAC loss to no. 19 nationally ranked Black Hills State University. UCCS would recover with a 100-74 victory over Chadron State College before dropping its next two RMAC contests against Colorado Christian University and Colorado State University Pueblo.   
  • The Mountain Lions jumped back into the win column with wins over Regis University and Metropolitan State University of Denver but went on to drop two in a row to New Mexico Highlands University and Fort Lewis College. The back-and-forth trend would continue, as UCCS went 2-3 in its next five games before a three-game win streak beating CCU 88-74, Colorado School of Mines 79-66, and Regis 85-74.
  • The regular season ended with a 94-101 loss to Adams State University, and a close 84-86 loss to New Mexico Highlands. With the loss to NMHU, the Mountain Lions earned the eight seed in the RMAC Tournament where they would face the at the time no. 13 nationally ranked Black Hills State for the third time in the 2025-'26 campaign.
  • In the first round of the RMAC Tournament, the Mountain Lions held a 15-point lead over BHSU at halftime and would hold the lead until there were two minutes remaining in the game. Despite relinquishing a double-digit lead, UCCS continued to battle, but eventually fell 73-74 in the first round of the conference tournament where its season would end.
   
AWARD WINNERS

The 2025-26 season came with three different Mountain Lions receiving awards and distinctions.   
STATISTICAL LEADERS
  • The Mountain Lions were lead in scoring by their two All-RMAC selected players, Abdur-Razaaq, and Martinez. Abdur-Razaaq averaged a career high 14.2 points, while Martinez averaged 13. Hull and Mario Williams Jr. were the other two UCCS players to average double-digit points, as Hull ended with 12.3, while Williams Jr. finished with 10.9.
  • Abdur-Razaaq had the season high for points in a game with 30 on January 31st, 2026, vs. Colorado Mesa.  
  • Martinez led the team in assists for a third-straight season, averaging 5.1 assists per game, the best mark of his collegiate career. Jayden Washington led the Mountain Lions in steals per game with 1.7, as Martinez and Hull finished marginally behind with 1.6 and 1.5, respectively. Abdur-Razaaq would lead the team in rebounding, averaging 5.9 rebounds per game.
  • The Mountain Lions shot a respectable 33.7 percent from three-point range as Martinez led the team with 40 three pointers made on 125 attempts with Williams Jr. finishing just behind him with 39 makes on 131 attempts.
   
HOT TAKES
  • In his first collegiate season, Hull led the team in total points with 358. Abdur-Razaaq and Martinez were right behind with 354 and 351, respectively.
  • Jezza McKenzie moves to fifth in total rebounds all-time at UCCS, grabbing 123 this year to give him 602 in his career as a Mountain Lion. McKenzie's 26 steals this season also bring him up to sixth all-time with 117 at UCCS.
  • Martinez assisted on 137 UCCS field goals this season, bringing him to 366 and seven shy of the Mountain Lions' all-time record held by now assistant coach, Elijah Ross.
  • The Mountain Lions .337 three-point percentage was a massive improvement from last season where they shot .292 from behind the arc. It was the highest team percentage since the 2023-2024 season where the team shot .345 from deep.
  • After his 14th season as the Mountain Lions head coach, Jeff Culver increased his lead in all-time wins in program history to 218. His overall career record improved to 218-176.
