ALAMOSA, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team posted a 6-4 win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, but fell in game two, 10-7, at Adams State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE
- After three scoreless innings, the Mountain Lions hung three runs on the scoreboard in the top half of the fourth inning. The first three batters of the inning – Caleb Stubbings, Brad Madison and Kasey Campbell, successfully reached base with two singles and a walk. Brady Lachemann went to work with no outs on the board and bases loaded and roped a single to left field to bring home Madison and Stubbings. Three batters and two outs later, Ronan Hella took the signal for a sacrifice fly that he placed into centerfield, scoring Campbell and giving UCCS a 3-1 lead.
- The home team knotted the game at 3-3 after scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. The Mountain Lions would regain the lead in the sixth inning with two more runs. Luis Samorano entered the game in place of Aaron Brakel to lead off the inning by drawing a walk. A fielding error by Adams State helped Vander Hodges reach first base, before Hella put down his second consecutive sac hit. This time Hella laid down a bunt to move both Samorano and Hodges into scoring position. Following Hella's sac bunt, Hayden Iverson hit a sac fly to centerfield to bring in Samorano before Steinberger drove in an RBI single that gave UCCS a 5-3 lead after six complete innings.
- With two outs, a two-run lead and Lachemann on base, Samorano added an insurance run for UCCS with a double RBI that gave the visitors a three run lead. Heading into the final half inning of game one and a 6-3 lead, Vander Hodges moved from third base to the mound to relieve Reynolds with a runner on base and no outs on the board. Hodges walked the first batter he saw but quickly settled in to hold ASU to just one run and retire the next three batters to earn the save.
GAME STATISTICS | GAME ONE
- Evan Reynolds earned his third win on the mound after throwing the first six innings to improve to 3-4 on the year. Reynolds held the Grizzlies to four runs on 10 hits and fanned four batters.
- Hodges collected his second straight save of the season, retiring three batters and holding ASU without a hit or earned run.
- Three Mountain Lions tallied two hits each to contribute to the Mountain Lions nine hits as a team.
- Lachemann paced the offense behind two hits and three at-bats as he drove in two runs, scored one and drew a walk.
- Steinberger and Stubbings each went 2-for-4 while Steibnerger tallied an RBI and a double, and Stubbings scored one run and added a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO
- Game two of Saturday's doubleheader started without the Mountain Lions reaching base in the first inning as the Grizzlies used a home run and triple to score three runs in their first offensive outing.
- The Mountain Lions were able to cut into Adams State's lead in the top half of the second frame. Batting in the cleanup spot, Campbell began the inning with a walk before Richardson roped a single to the left side. Campbell crossed home plate for the first time for UCCS on a ground out RBI by Lachemann. Luis Samorano then brought in Richardson with a single to left field.
- Adams State extended their lead to three runs, 5-2, after two complete innings. The Mountain Lions continued to chip away at the Grizzlies home field lead. Iverson went to work with a triple to right field in the top half of the third inning. Madison followed Iverson when a two-run home run came off his bat, bringing the Mountain Lions back to a one-run deficit, 5-4.
- Both teams went three-up, three down in their next offensive appearance but the Grizzlies didn't stay scoreless for long, adding their sixth run of the game in the home half of the fourth frame.
- Trailing by two runs, the Mountain Lions knotted the game at 6-6 in the fifth inning with a leadoff single by Madison followed by a double from Stubbings. Campbell and Richardson each registered an RBI single for the game-tying score.
- The home team kept the Mountain Lions at a distance, holding UCCS to three hits and one run in the final two innings as the Grizzlies chipped in two runs on three hits in the sixth inning to take their first win of the series, 10-7.
GAME STATISTICS | GAME TWO
- Madison finished game three with two hits, two RBI, two runs scored and a home run.
- Stubbings and Richardson each belted out two hits. Stubbings scored once and added a double, while Richardson scored one run and drove in one run.
- Campbell, who drew the only walk of the game for UCCS, went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Garrett Shriver took the loss on the mound after giving up five earned runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings of work. Will Gabriel closed out the game as the third Mountain Lions relief pitcher, keeping ASU to just one hit and no runs in the final inning.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Hodges' four saves this season moves him into a tie for the third most saves in a season.
- Madison banged his fifth home run of the season while Iverson's triple in game two was his second this year.
- Through three games this series, Stubbings and Madison have each accounted for two multiple-hit games. Stubbings improves his team high multiple hit games to 24 as Madison has 19 overall.
- Campbell, who has 12 multiple hit games in 2023, improves his hitting streak to 16 games with Stubbings on his heels with 14 games.
