COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore
Victoria Farinas and redshirt junior
Brian Mosley Jr. of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field teams have been named the final Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Track Athletes of the Week for the 2023 outdoor season, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Farinas and Mosley Jr. become the eighth and ninth UCCS track & field student-athletes to earn a weekly conference award during the 2023 outdoor season. For Farinas, the honor is the first of her career at UCCS while Mosley Jr. earns the accolade for the second time in his Mountain Lion career after also having earned the award during the 2021-22 indoor season.
A sprinter from Miami, Fla., Farinas is named the RMAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week after putting together a solid day at the Fum McGraw Power Meet on Sunday, notching a first place finish as part of the Mountain Lions 4x100m relay team and a second place finish in the open 100m dash. She began her day as the anchor for UCCS' 4x100m relay team that clocked an altitude-converted national qualifying time of 46.34s, then came back later in the day to record a wind-aided time of 11.95s in the open 100m dash, which sits just three-hundredths of a second off of her personal best in the event. Entering the conference championship meet, the second-year sprinter ranks first in the RMAC in the 4x100m relay and fourth in the 100m dash.
A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mosley Jr. brings home the men's weekly conference award after he posted a pair of NCAA qualifying marks at the Fum McGraw Power Meet on Sunday. The fourth-year sprinter started his day as the anchor for the UCCS men's 4x100m relay team, helping his squad record a first-place finish in the race with a national qualifying altitude-converted time of 40.76s. Mosley Jr. then went on to post another NCAA provisional mark in the open 100m dash, grabbing a third-place finish in the 17-person field with an altitude-converted time of 10.50s that was just shy of his season-best in the event. The 2019 graduate of Doherty High School will head into the outdoor conference championship meet ranked first in the RMAC in the 4x100m relay, second in the 100m dash, and seventh in the 200m dash.
Farinas, Mosley Jr., and the Mountain Lions will now set their sights on defending their back-to-back outdoor conference titles as they head to Chadron, Neb., to compete at the 2023 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day conference championship meet is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 28, from Chadron State College's Nelson Physical Activity Center.
