HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hayden Iverson wore a pitch to lead off the series finale Sunday afternoon. A walk from Caleb Stubbings and a single by Brad Madison loaded the bases for Kasey Campbell to hit a two run RBI single, giving UCCS a 2-0 lead after one half inning of work. A two-run home run off the bat of Conrad Villfuerte tied the game just three batters into the bottom of the first inning. A single RBI and a two-run single later in the inning gave Colorado Mesa a 5-2 advantage.
- Down by four runs after two complete innings, 6-2, Campbell added another pair of RBIs, this time when he went yard over the right centerfield fence to bring home Stubbings. CMU answered with their third straight inning scoring at least one run after Rob Sharrar roped in an RBI double.
- CMU extended their lead, 12-4 in the bottom of the fourth frame. With one out and the bases loaded, UCCS walked in the eighth run of the game that was swiftly followed by a two RBI single and then a two RBI triple.
- Staring down a full count, Madison led off the fifth inning with a home run down the left field line. The next batter, Campbell, swung at the first pitch he saw and sailed the ball over the centerfield fence for his second homer of the afternoon as UCCS inched toward the Mavericks lead, 12-6 after five complete innings.
- The Mountain Lions were held scoreless on four hits in the final four innings as the home team added an insurance run in the seventh inning, taking the win, 13-6, and the series sweep.
