COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A strong first half by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team faded in the second half as No. 3 Regis University handed the Mountain Lions a 23-9 setback at home Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The No. 3 ranked team in the nation snagged a 2-0 lead to start Saturday's action, but the Mountain Lions fired back as Julia Patrick netted back-to-back free-position goals to knot the game with 4:43 left in the first quarter. Thirty-five seconds later Brennan Kelly found Olivia Evans to give the home team a 3-2 advantage. After Regis tied the game for the second tie of the quarter, Ava Goodnature regained the lead for UCCS with her 11th goal of the season. Regis closed the opening stanza with two goals from the stick of Lucy Johnson.
- Regis continued the offensive attack as Bailey Truex opened the second quarter with consecutive goals to boost their lead to 7-4 at the 12:06 mark. Brielle Fannin put her name in the box score with her first goal of the game and 23rd of the season. She added an assist on Allie Schell's score to cut into Regis' lead, 9-6. Schell's goal didn't slow down the Rangers as they outscored the home team in the final seven minutes of the opening half, 5-1, as the visitors owned a 14-7 lead at halftime.
- Fannin and Schell accounted for both of the Mountain Lions goals in the third quarter, but the Mountain Lions were unable to keep up with the Rangers as RU out-scored UCCS, 9-2, and out-shot the Mountain Lions 18-7 in the second half.
STATS FROM THE GAME
- Patrick attempted a team high seven shots and added five draw controls to go with her two scores. Kathryn Kossack matched Patrick's draws with five and picked up a team high three ground balls.
- Meghan Weiss and Anna Markham each picked up two ground balls, while Markham was one of four Mountain Lions to cause a turnover against the Rangers.
- Madison McGriff took the loss in goal after making 15 saves in 60 minutes of action. She posted a .395 save percentage as she moves to 4-8 on the season.
- Johnson led both teams with five goals and added an assist for a game high six points. Bailey Truex and Lily Ferguson each added five points to help the Rangers total 33 points behind 23 goals and 10 assists.
- Regis held the advantage over UCCS in shots (45-18), shots on goal (38-15), ground balls (23-17) and draw controls (25-10).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The nine goals scored today are the most goals UCCS has scored against the Rangers.
- Patrick moved up the season and career records today. For the season, she is now tied for ninth in points (41), eighth in goals (33) and tied for second in free-position goals (10). In the career record books, Patrick is now tied for seventh in shots on goal (120) and she is third all-time in free-position goals with 19.
- Fannin's assist today is her 16th of the season, tying her for the eighth most assists in a season and ninth all-time.
