GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Julia Patrick recorded a hat trick in the first 11 minutes of action to give the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team a 3-1 lead over Colorado Mesa University, but the Mavericks prevailed to hand the Mountain Lions a 17-6 setback Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With her back to the goal, Patrick faked right and then turned left to shoot over her left shoulder for the first score of the game at 11:46 in the opening stanza. Colorado Mesa tied the game three minutes later, but Patrick answered to put UCCS back on top, 2-1, when she entered the attack zone coming in from the left side to fire the ball into the net. Less than three minutes later, Allie Schell fed Patrick from the right side as Patrick slashed through the middle of the zone for her third score of the first quarter.
- Down 3-1, the Mavericks stormed back to net the next eight goals while holding the Mountain Lions scoreless. The home team held a 9-3 lead and a 22-10 shots advantage after one half of action.
- Patrick stopped the scoring spree when she took an assist from Erica Rivera for a player-up goal at 11:33 in the third quarter. Patrick then returned the favor and assisted Rivera with 5:55 left in the period, cutting into CMU's lead, 11-5.
- The Mavericks finished the final 20 minutes of action outscoring UCCS 7-1 to seal the home win, 17-6.
STATS FROM THE GAME
- Patrick accounted for four of the Mountain Lions' six goals and five of the team's nine points. She added four draw controls and took six shots.
- Rivera chipped in a goal and an assist to go with three shots, two ground balls and two draws.
- Ava Goodnature tallied the sixth and final goal for UCCS.
- Rivera and Kathryn Kossack each won two draws while Brielle Fannin added one draw.
- Avery Beck-Davis, Rivera, Anna Markham and Schell each caused one turnover.
- McGriff defended the goal for all 60 minutes, stopping 14 shots and finishing the game with five ground balls and a .432 saves percentage.
- Three Mavericks netted at least three goals with Kiley Davis scoring a team high four goals after attempting a game high 14 shots.
- CMU held the advantage over the Mountains Lions in shots (39-18), shots on goal (31-11), draws (18-9) and ground balls (23-16).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- With Patrick's player-up goal in the third quarter, she now moves into sole possession for most player-up goals all-time with nine, and the most in a season by any Mountain Lion (five).
- Patrick's five shots on goal are tied for the sixth most in program history (120).
- McGriff picked up five ground balls to bring her season total to 53, the second most by any Mountain Lion in a season. She also moves into second place for most saves in a season. Her 14 saves tonight propelled her total to 134 in 2023.
