Hedlund Named RMAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

3/29/2023 3:03:00 PM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Kate Hedlund of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's track & field team has been named the Week 2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Hedlund becomes the second Mountain Lion to earn RMAC Athlete of the Week honors during the 2023 outdoor season after Sawyer Christopher brought home the RMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week award in the first week of the season.

The native of Manchester, Conn., earns the first weekly conference award of her career after racing to an NCAA qualifying mark in the 1500m last weekend at CSU Pueblo's Spank Blasing Invitational. Hedlund clocked an altitude-converted time of 4:28.61, finishing second place in the competition and only finishing behind a Division I runner. Her 1500m time currently ranks first in the RMAC and fourth in all of Division II. Hedlund's day wasn't done with her impressive 1500m mark, as she also went on to notch a fifth-place finish in the 800m with a raw time of 2:15.96 that ranks fifth in the conference.

Hedlund and the Mountain Lions are set to head back to Pueblo, Colo., for the third straight weekend as they will compete at the CSU Pueblo Open on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. UCCS will also have a select few men's distance runners competing on the west coast at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, March 31.
