COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Redshirt junior Sawyer Christopher of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's track & field team has been named the first RMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week of the 2023 Outdoor Track & Field season, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

After the Mountain Lions grabbed a total of eight Athlete of the Week honors during the indoor season, Christopher's weekly award marks the first for the Mountain Lions during the outdoor season.

The redshirt junior earns his first career weekly conference award after posting a strong performance in his outdoor season opener with a second-place finish in the men's javelin with a toss of 57.83m. His mark currently ranks first in the RMAC by more than seven meters and is just less than one meter away from the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard. Christopher, who is starting his second season in the black and gold, was a national qualifier in the men's javelin throw last outdoor season and currently holds the UCCS school record in the event by nearly ten meters at 64.66m.

After opening their outdoor season at CSU Pueblo's Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird Invite on March 17-18, Christopher and the Mountain Lions are set to travel back to Pueblo, Colo., for a second consecutive weekend as they prepare to compete at the Spank Blasing Invitational on March 24-25.
