Baseball Drops Series Finale to CSU Pueblo, 12-4

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team took the field on a chilly Sunday afternoon to take on the ThunderWolves of Colorado State University Pueblo. The visitors tallied 19 hits en route to a 12-4 victory over the Mountain Lions.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final Score: UCCS 4, CSUP 12
Records: UCCS (8-12, 1-3 RMAC) | CSUP (5-13, 3-1 RMAC)
Facility | Location: Mountain Lion Park | Colorado Springs, Colo.
All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions lead the all-time series over the ThunderWolves, 13-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was Marko Sipila who drew the start for the Mountain Lions series finale against CSUP. While the ThunderWolves recorded five hits across the first three innings of action, none came around to score as Sipila was dealing to start the game.
  • Following a Vander Hodges single to start the bottom half of the third inning, freshman Ronan Hella broke the tie with a two-run blast over the left field wall. Hella's homerun was his first of the season and first of his young collegiate career.
  • The Pack's Brady Prewitt executed a hit and run to start the fifth inning, rocketing a double down the left field line to drive in their first run of the afternoon.
  • The Mountain Lions would quickly respond as two singles to start the inning would get Macully Sehr into scoring position. Caleb Stubbings would then send a ball deep to left field, scoring Sehr via the sacrifice fly.
  • With two outs in the top of the sixth, the ThunderWolves mounted a two-out rally to take the lead. Following a pair of walks, Prewitt hit a double into the right center gap to give CSUP their first lead of the game at 4-3.
  • Garrett Shriver entered the game in the top of the seventh inning, facing a bases loaded jam with only one out. The Pack jumped on what would be their best opportunity of the afternoon thus far, scoring five runs, three of which came on a bases clearing double from Reggie Williams.
  • CSUP would go on to add three more runs, while surrendering just one, taking the series finale by a score of 12-4.

GAME STATISTICS
  • UCCS registered nine hits, seeing multi-hit efforts from Sehr, Kit Wigington, and Brad Madison.

  • In the loss, Sipila went 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on 11 hits, while striking out four CSUP batters.
  • The Thunderwolves were led by Prewitt, who went 4-for-5 with three doubles and four RBI.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Hella's third inning homerun was the first of his collegiate career.
  • Madison extends his hitting streak to five games, collecting 10 hits and six extra-base hits in that span.
  • Stubbings finishes the series with seven RBI, one double and one homerun.
