Bailey Notches Strong Showing in Long Jump at Mines Winter Classic & Multi

GOLDEN, Colo. – Redshirt junior Christine Bailey of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team put together a strong performance in the women's long jump as one of just two Mountain Lion student-athletes competing at the Mines Winter Classic & Multi on Friday evening at the CSM Steinhauer Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Competing in the long jump for just the third time during the 2022-23 indoor season, Bailey put forth her best performance of the season as she recorded a mark of 5.60m to place fourth of 16 jumpers in the competition. Her mark sits just .05 meters away from reaching the NCAA Division II provisional standard for the event and currently ranks as the fourth best long jump mark in the RMAC this season.
  • Sophomore Alison Van Dyke was also in competition on Friday evening as she notched a 15th place finish in the women's pole vault after she cleared a bar height of 3.06m.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
  • Redshirt junior Audrey Bloomquist was named the Week 5 RMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, Jan. 31, marking the second consecutive week that she has earned the accolade. Bloomquist earned the honor after notching personal best and improved provisional marks in both the long jump (5.75m) and the triple jump (12.20m) at the CRC Mountain Lion Open on Saturday, Jan. 28.
  • The UCCS track & field teams notched a pair of top-25 national rankings in the Week 2 USTFCCCA National Track & Field Rating Index, with the men's team landing at No. 4 in the nation and the women's team being tabbed the No. 16 team in the country.
  • Throughout the first five competition weeks of the 2022-23 indoor track & field season, the UCCS men's and women's track & field teams have combined to record a total of 26 NCAA qualifying marks, including nine that are currently ranked among the top-ten marks in the nation for their respective event.
UP NEXT
  • The UCCS track & field team will have another handful of student-athletes in action tomorrow for day two of the Mines Winter Classic & Multi. Redshirt senior Evan Graff will also be competing at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite at Boston University as he is set to race in the men's mile at 10:45 a.m. (MT)
