GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's and women's track & field teams opened their 2023-24 season on Friday afternoon at the Mines Alumni Classic with a strong showing at the sand pits as the Mountain Lion long jumpers combined to post a total of seven NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Redshirt junior Christine Bailey led the way for the Mountain Lions in the women's long jump as she posted the first of three provisional qualifying marks in the event with a personal best leap of 5.93m that was good for third place in the competition. Bailey's mark also moved her into a tie for second all-time in program history for the women's indoor long jump.
- Redshirt senior Audrey Bloomquist joined Bailey in reaching the provisional qualifying threshold in the women's long jump as she finished fourth overall with an indoor personal best mark of 5.86m. Her mark also pushed her up one spot in the UCCS women's indoor record book with the fourth-furthest jump in program history.
- First-year Mountain Lion Madissyn Moore rounded out the NCAA qualifying marks from the women's long jump for UCCS as she earned a seventh-place finish with a strong mark of 5.70m.
- The Mountain Lions also found success in the men's long jump as four student-athletes surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying threshold in the event, led by junior Daryon Wilson with a third-place mark of 7.37m. Redshirt junior Richard Safoh also earned a top-five finish in the competition as he finished fifth overall with a mark of 7.16m, while freshman Daunte Lord made a strong impression in his UCCS debut with a provisional qualifying leap of 7.15m that was good for sixth place overall.
- Redshirt senior Peyton Turnage posted the fourth and final provisional qualifying mark of the afternoon for the men's track & field squad with a seventh-place finish in the long jump at a mark of 7.14m.

- The Mines Alumni Classic will continue tomorrow morning with the women's weight throw kicking off the field events at 9:30 a.m. and the preliminary round of the women's 60m hurdles starting the events on the track at 1 p.m.
