Three Mountain Lions Compete at UCCS XC Open

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A trio of University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country runners competed Friday morning in the 2023 UCCS XC Open.  Abby Bartel, Kaya Pillivant and Maddie Ruszkiewicz donned the black and gold at Monument Valley Park.
 
INSIDE THE UCCS XC OPEN
  • Course | Location: Monument Valley Park | Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • Course Length: 5k
  • Elevation: 6,109'
 
AROUND THE COURSE
  • All three Mountain Lions finished within 30 seconds and nine spots of each other. Ruszkiewicz paced the three Mountain Lions with a 22nd place finish in 18:45.8.
  • Three spots and seven seconds later Bartel crossed the finish line (18:52.8) while Pillivant clocked a time of 19:13.3.
                       
RACE LEADERS
  • Leading all 65 runners was Adams State University's Elena Carey with a time of 17:24.6.
 
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
  • Ruszkiewicz, Bartel and Pillivant all notched personal best 5k times.
  • Ten teams competed this morning in the unscored UCCS XC Open.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will now turn their attention to the 2023 RMAC Championships on Oct 21 in Denver, Colo. at Washington Park.
