COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs closed out the regular season Friday morning at the 2023 UCCS XC Open, held at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs. Ten Mountain Lions suited up for the men's cross country program in the unscored race that featured 10 teams and 105 runners.

AROUND THE COURSE
- Three Mountain Lions finished in the top half of the race and were led by redshirt-freshman Koy Cunningham. Cunningham posted a career best time of 26:17.1 to finish 32nd overall.
- Two spots and five seconds behind Cunningham was Caden Leal who also added a personal best 8k time of 26:23.7. Pablo Lomeli was part of the trio that ran in the Mountain Lions pack of three. Lomeli finished just 12 seconds behind Cunningham to post a time of 26:29.1 and a 38th place finish.
RACE LEADERS
- The Air Force Academy claimed the top three spots in the race. Sophomore Will Allen bested all 105 runners with a time of 25:03.4.
BEYOND THE FINISH LINE
- Nine of the 10 Mountain Lions that ran in the black and gold posted career best 8k times.
- Transfer student Will Lamb (82nd place, 28:20.5) and redshirt-freshman Peter Harrison (86th place, 28:45.9) ran in their first race for the Mountain Lions cross country program this morning.
- The last time the UCCS XC Open was held at Monument Valley Park was in 2019. UCCS has hosted the meet the last three years at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course.

- UCCS will return to competition on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship meet, held at Washington Park in Denver, Colo.
