No. 22 UCCS Plays CPP to Stalemate in 0-0 Draw on Sunday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team grind out another hard-fought 90-minute match this week as the Mountain Lions played California Polytechnic University, Pomona Broncos to a 0-0 draw at home Sunday afternoon, despite an offensive driven second half from the Mountain Lions.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: #22 UCCS 0, CPP 0
Records: UCCS (3-1-2, 0-0 RMAC), CPP (1-3-1, 0-0 CCAA)
Location: Mountain Lion Stadium | Colorado Springs, Colo.
Series: With Sunday's draw, the Mountain Lions still lead the all-time series over the Broncos at a record of 1-0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Sunday's tightly contested non-conference match began from the kick-off as a total of just five shots were registered between both UCCS and CPP in the first half. The Mountain Lions were responsible for two of the match's first half shots with Jael Larson and Jade Kinsey each taking a shot in the opening three minutes of play.
• The UCCS offense stayed on the attack for the remainder of the half by generating three corner kicks in attempt to generate a scoring opportunity, but the Broncos defense managed to recover as CPP turned to the offensive by taking the next two shots under the 10-minute mark.
UCCS' backline remained composed and kept the Broncos off balance as Cal Poly came back again at the 18th minute with the half's only shot on goal to result in Alexis Walker coming through with a save in the bottom center of frame.
• Both defenses refused offensive progression for the remainder of the half as the Mountain Lions took the Broncos to a scoreless tie heading into the intermission.
• Coming out of halftime, Walker and the UCCS defense received early pressure from the Broncos but it was nothing the goalkeeper couldn't handle as she bagged two saves in the second half's first minutes.
• Just minutes later, Larson made another appearance after a dispossession near midfield that resulted in the Mountain Lions first shot on frame after she peppered the bottom corner of the net that CPP's Audrey Brown would make a save on in the 63rd minute.
• Brown stayed busy in frame for Cal Poly with the Mountain Lions continuing to push as high school teammates Sydney Lasater and Jadyn LeDoux landed a pair of quality shots on net just 90 seconds apart at the halfway point in the second half.
• Again at the 82nd and 88th minute UCCS provided themselves with opportunities as Makayla Merlo and Larson each registered a shot on goal, but Brown stretched out for saves on both shots to keep the game tied.
• Then with time winding down, the Broncos gave a last shot at 89:15 where Walker pocketed the save to secure the 0-0 draw.

STATS FROM THE DAY:
UCCS came to outshoot CPP 13-11 while also holding the advantage in shots on goal, 5-4.

The Mountain Lions posted seven corner kicks and limited the Broncos to only one on the day.
